Title: Air Leak
Post by: john9861 on March 06, 2016, 10:27:10 AM
Got an air leak at seam on the gizmo on the right. Seperated & found no gasket. Should there be a gasket & if so
where can I get  one?

I have one of those on my MCI too. I never knew what they were called. Now I know if I ever need a new one to ask for a "gizmo".  :D

How did you narrow down the air leak to that point? Was it just making a loud enough hiss to where you could tell where it was coming from?

They only leak when you shut the engine down so it easy to hear one leaking

Actually it is recommended by Detroit Diesel that you never shut down a Diesel engine.  It causes undue wear because of the fluctuating temperature ranges on the cylinder walls.  BSNF never shuts their Diesels down for the same reason.  Rumor has it that they even rebuild them when they are running, but not sure that is actually true.   But if you never shut it down, you don't have to worry about hearing air leaks.

Something to consider.  ;D

I aired up the system from an outside air compressor. Took it up to 150 psi to locate any and all leaks. Heard the hissing & soap bottle confirmed. Now the fun of just finding one...
