Title: MCI 102a3 - what is this?
Post by: Danny Holder on March 05, 2016, 04:42:19 AM
I am wondering what this is in my MCI 102a3 - it is just aft of the plastic windshield washer container in the compartment below the driver's seat.  It looks like an electrical component about a foot square.  There is actually two of them side by side.  Any ideas?

Thanks,
Danny Holder

Danny I think you are probably looking at in station lighting transformers. They would plug them in at the bus station to run the inside lights and the 24v system. Mine had one of them, but I believe they could option them differently. You should have a plug that would power these up.

I actually have two of them.  They look rusty.  I was wondering if I could take them out.

Thoughts?

I took mine out, it was totally rusted out. There is really not a need for it. Most of us are making our own 12 volt system for interior lights based on a rv type system with batteries. Can you get a photo of it? I will be able to tell you for sure what it is.

Mine had 2 as well. I just took them out and I had one in back by the lavatory frame. The power inlet was split so it ran the box and the block heater. I just put a longer cable on it so I can plug it in to an outlet I have next to my back luggage door. Comes in handy when moving in winter.

I took both of them out.  They were in really bad shape.  Cleaned out the space.
