Can anyone recommend a place that I can purchase an MCI nine windshield somewhere near Palestine Texas? I'll drive a few hours if I have to. The windshield is cracked beyond repair and the glass is starting to separate from the plastic it's become downright dangerous.

Scott, Darby Diesel in Hutchins (I-45 & I 20 just south of Dallas) is scrapping some MCI's. I drove by there last week -- on the interstate so I only caught a glance. I don't know if he'll have anything that fits. If he's still in business, his number is/was 972-225-5200. I'm not sure they're still in business, as I had trouble finding a good online reference when I was searching on someone else's behalf. If it's not Darby, it's whoever is on that same property.
From Palestine, I-45 north to Dowdy Ferry Road, just south of I-20. Make U-turn under the freeway, they're on the southbound access road. Drive slowly, because the entry (first/only gate) comes up on you fast.
Your other option may be the MCI repair depot in Dallas -- one of their regional service centers. Not far from Love Field.

Wait till you leave Texas it will just get broke again I get windshields broke on every trip, the Dallas Service for MCI is about as good as it gets lol it's located on Clifford Dr
You just like it cause they live on your name. :) I'm concerned the windshield will implode on my face. Is that even possible?

The windshield not going to implode on you Scott, the ADS gave me a repair ticket on my pickup she said the reason was because the crack was not in my viewing area but if I was in a wreck the cab would crush me because the windshield would collapse.I shook my head and told her give me my ticket
I would think any larger glass company could get one. But maybe not at the price you are looking for.
I talked with Progressive about Eagle windshields ( I had them send Safelite to fix rock chips, because it was free...no deductible) and she told me that they could source windshields. I had told her that I would do the chip repairs because the glass was hard to source... she said that was not true, that they had access to a vendor that did this type glass nationwide...
Have you queried your carrier ?
Scott
I bought two when we bought our bus MCI is the cheapest place to get one. if you find a touring company. they might have one. Im thinking about buying 2 more just for back up.. they are $130.00 at mci
Only $130? Oh. In that case I'll buy one this week. Do they sell the gasket too?

Bus doesn't have glass coverage :(

I have some bigger issues I'll be contacting the insurance company about. My toad let loose last night and rear ended my coach. Been a fun week.

you only carry liability ?
the windows are $130 a piece i'm not sure on shipping. I picked mine up in Louisville when we bought our bus. I priced all the glass all the way around. that driver side window and door window are over $500. each. as for gaskets MCI does not carry them any more. there is a guy on ebay selling some though. Also anyone can put those dang things in. all you need is suction cups a flat tip screwdriver and a ladder.
hope this helps.

Thanks for the help. Ill be headed to Dallas in a couple weeks to pick up new glass. Carney, can you elaborate on the install? Pull the inner and outer gaskets out? Then install new interior gasket then lay a bead of windshield urethane and then lay the glass in then another layer of urethane and press the exterior gasket in??? Do I have it right?

auto glass install spoons.. not sure you need these but i use them alot around glass installs. they will not chip the edges which usually result in cracks...some places call them Chisel Point Installation Sticks

Thanks Don :) I'll look around here to see where I can get a set of those

A whole $130 each. Droooolllllll.
God knows what they would cost in Australia. I've got one second hand one sitting in the garage and two cracked windsceens.

Almost any glass shop should have them... they are often like the bank giving free ink pens. and advertising gimmick deal.
I don't think I've ever paid money for one.
Good...once again, can someone do a quick elaboration on the install? Two gaskets one inside and one outside? And do I actually use a bed of urethane? Or just the gaskets?

Scott, just gaskets clean the frame good space the windshield with shims if you are going it alone watch the HF suction cups they are not much they cost me a windshield.Good luck but I would let MCI install the windshields 30 minutes and you are gone plus if they break it's not a problem they go get another one
The first windshield is really tough (for us anyways). We had three guys working on it. Get a good ladder and plank setup. Do NOT touch it with anything metal. A 10" drywall knife seems like a really slick idea....it isn't.
We got to where we could swap the windshields on our DL3 in less then 15mins. For a while, we were replacing them every trip, due to rocks.
Make sure it is not wedged in strange. Otherwise it will stress crack.
As to the process, assuming yours is like our DL3. Take out the lock strip. Now start at one corner, and start slipping the gasket behind the old windshield. Someone on the inside applying pressure to the proper corner can help.
Paint all the edges of the windshield with liquid soap.
Install. Set the bottom in the gasket. Now, slowly start to work the gasket up on each side. If you have someone on the inside pushing the gasket lip out, that can help. Otherwise, work your way up both sides, "pulling" the gasket lip out. Use plenty of liquid soap. It really helps the process.
And yes. If MCI will do it, that is the best plan!
Cheers,
John
Talcum powder and tire soap works real good it doesn't dry out,John bring those 3 guys by I need some help those D's windshields are heavy suckers

Scott.
sorry. the install was pretty easy the guys that cam and helped me had a good working knowledge. we took the old windows out after we took off the inner seal. which is just a locking seal. then when we pulled the old window out we took on the surrounding seal. then we used soapy water for the instal. the water is used to lube the seal and to make sure that it is sealed correctly. after you have the new window in and the surrounding seal on use the tools shown in the other post to complete the seal. then you want to take a water hose or a spray bottle and make sure there isn't a leak. if there is take the locking seal off and take a flat tip screw driver and make sure the surrounding seal is snug on the window. its pretty much the same process as changing the window seal on an LVS. and LVSR.
any other questions. hit me up.
Thanks team. Since we will conveniently be in Dallas end of April passing thru, I think we will just have MCI take care of it for us :) not willing to turn different colors when I crack a brand new windshield because of my lack of experience.

Hear hear!! I heartily agree. Worth the money to have them do it.
I need someone to throw rocks at mine. I haven't had to change them for about 10 years, I think, and the gasket has started to leak in the rain. Gonna have to get the polyurethane out this spring, I think.
Come to Texas. Your windshields will last about a week.
