Greetings all,
firstly, thank you all for this tremendous source of information. I''l take this chance to introduce myself and the bus project. The 12 was Dallas based Greyhound from 93-06, it was sold back to MCI, that performed a full overhaul on everything (engine, tranny new paint etc). it was sold to methodist church in Dallas that put approximately 4k miles on the bus over next 10 years. It was used to haul kids to summer camp, so there is a pretty impressive service history, most work done by MCI. It's essentially rust free bus, with few soft spots on the rear, under where old marker lights had leaked.

I use to work at the city bus garage back on my younger years back in Finland and have driven just about everything except for Semi's. Still had to channel my younger self a bit when i picked this puppy up, it does drive very nice though (as long as you have a football field to turn it over)...

So far the demo is just about complete (only had it for < month), just received my FL PC registration (woohoo), Roof is painted with buskote and new led markers installed. Belly of the bus is filled with 3 penguins, 10kw kubota, 4 solar panels and controller, 8 golf cart batteries and shiny Magnum 2800. Oh and few hundred feet of PEX for radiant heat.

This will be my primary residence, as I travel for work around 280 days of the year. Currently in DFW area doing Tornado restoration work. Would need to find a local shop to go through the bus, any tips would be appreciated :)

Probably have to start a thread for the build, as well as "wanted list" (steering wheel, drivers and co pilots seats, dash warning light cover, webasto, stock tinted windows....oh boy)

Sami, welcome to the Board.  If that's the one from CUMC, it's been reported to me by a friend who's a member there that your coach was well-maintained when the Church owned it -- unlike many other churches. 

I had to run to Houston earlier this week.  On I-45, just south of I-20 (actually Dowdy Ferry Road exit) is Darby Diesel Repair.  When I owned the 4107, I had him do some work.  Work and prices OK, but communications difficult.  I'm not sure what is going on with his business, whether there are any changes or not, but his lot doesn't seem as crowded as in the past.  However, what is pertinent is that it looks like he's scrapping a bunch of Hound MCI's.  You might want to drive down there to see what he has in the way of parts (you mention windows, steering wheel).

As a suggestion, many of us add a little information to our signatures (see mine below) so other folks can see where we are, and what we own (or used to).

I thought most of the MCI 12's were recon MCI 9's from MCI for Greyhound

Yep, it's the CUMC's old bus. Those were the nicest guys and easily the best purchase experience of all time. Looking through the receipts they really maintained it well.Thanks for the Darby hint, i'll definetly stop by there.

I haven't gotten too deep into the engine bay, except to notice how clean it was and that there's a big silver reliabilt  ;D

And way too new to spot the actual differences between 9's and 12's.

I had to look at the crappy cell phone pic closely, but yes, indeed there is a shabby looking pop up roof on there.

curious, what did you do with the seats? Im trying to find better seats than i currently have someone between middle america and the west coast..

I cant find the parts to fix my current seats..

Clifford -

No, MC-12s were a special order just for Greyhound, but some other operators were able to buy them also, mostly as prisoner transporters.  They were not reconditioned MC-9s.

MC-12s are basically a 96A3 below the floor, and an MC-9 above it, with a slightly different front cap, mirrors and headlights.

Thanks for clearing that up I have always been told they were Recon 9's,you still have the fishy part of the MCI 12's 94,95,96 and 97 year models running the 6v92 how did happen ?

Leftover engines maybe?  Many truck and RV manufacturers stockpiled as many engines as they could before Jan 1, 2007 when the new emissions went into effect.  As long as the engine was produced before Jan 1, 2007 it could be installed in vehicles after Jan 1.

The series 50 was to replace the 6v92 in 1994 the same year as the low sulfur fuel began because the 2 strokes didn't meet the 1994 emission standards in place at that time
