I came to the board with this because of the brain trust here. I need to go back and develop and test some new parts for the 71 & 92 engines for use in the marine world. The testing at this time will be 2.5 mil. I can't do this on my own I don't have the money. How would you go about raising money for a project of this magnitude. I am willing to take on investors and or partners. we need to develop and test some new internal parts as well as some type of catalyst that can also be used on some of the older engines 2 & 4 stroke. EPA reg's will be used on our private coaches one day soon. any and all reply's welcome.

Don-How're Doin? Well so far, the EPA and CARB have said that older Diesel motorhomes are exempt from smog laws. I haven't heard about them stopping that. Course that doesn't mean a thing with an agency that can change it's mind several times in one day.
I know if that happens, I'll just replace my engine in my truck with a Cummins ISL 450hp @ 1250lb/ft torque and an Allison 3000MH with all the smog crap. Much easier then trying to retrofit a mechanical 3406B Cat. Good Luck, TomC

tom, one of the meany reasons I believe the EPA will go after our coaches soon is they have proposed a new rule to make it illegal to modify any vehicle used for track or racing only.
It's coming of we don't stop them.

this an EPA rule I was reading about it in the sema mag. I called a person we know at the EPA and they say there goal is to have emission equipment on all vehicles operating in the us no matter where they are. That means all motor sports as well as highway use. all engines no matter the fuel they use.

I read that Proposal too but it was for Track and Race cars not street cars or show cars etc. It was only a proposal and most in the know said it won't happen because of the aftermarket parts companies won't let it happen.

Dave it is in congress now. it has been expanded to included all purpose built cars as well.

I think it's great what you have been able to accomplish with just some mechanical changes to our 2 stroke friend. I was wondering during this testing if you have monitored what effect these changes are having on fuel consumption? I am just curios since it seems that the engine is running more efficiently. Also is there any concern with the increased exhaust temperatures affecting manifolds etc especially in our coaches where the heat is a concern already? Does this raise the overall engine temps? Thanks again, maybe some day I will be lucky enough to know half of what you know about detroits.
we re-engineered the camshaft, piston and liner. We dropped the compression ratio lowering the heat in the cylinder, so then we speed up the blower to compensate for less air in the cylinder. doing this reduced fuel consumption to that of the four strokes.
there are others on this board that know much more than I on these two-stroke engines

I know that if I needed to do a rebuild on my engine I would definitely be calling you up for these parts. I am actually looking forward to getting my grubby hands on that detriot some day. I definitely need to run the rack before I take it on a trip.
