Title: Removing My Euro Style Mirrors
Post by: eb99603 on February 08, 2016, 11:44:35 AM
Hey all, looking for some advice. When I took possession, my Setra had two sets of mirrors. Upper, euro style and lower "standard" smaller mirrors. The uppers are in rough shape.
* Plastic housing is cracked
* Rubber gasket covering the mount/pivot point is completely torn
* Glass is foggy
* Heat element wire is torn behind the glass
* Wiring is disconnected and missing the plugs on both the coach and mirrors.
* Bad rattle
* Right mirror frame is bent

In working on getting my front glass replaced and all of the water leaks addressed at the same time, I was chipping/brushing/grinding away anything around the glass that looked like corrosion and I kept going until I stopped uncovering rust. The mounting brackets for the upper windshields are another source of rust. The wiring is clearly some aftermarket hack job. If I decide to keep these mirrors, I'm looking at a bunch of work and probably a couple thousand dollars.

I'm inclined to cut the brackets off, grind it all smooth, and just abandon the uppers all together. I took them off for the drive from MN to AK and wasn't bothered at all by the smaller lower mirrors. I'll probably add rear and side view cameras at some point for extra visibility.

Anyway, before I cut off the brackets and commit to no more upper mirrors, is there anything I'm not thinking about and should consider?

Can't help you on what you have now but if you go on Ebay and look at Velvac mirrors you may be able to find something that would work for a new lower mirror. The mount may need some working on but Velvac carries many different configurations and styles. Good Luck !

Went to ebay.  Entered "velvac rv".  First thing to show is a take off from a Winnebago.  Heated, remote, AND a camera.  Buy it now for $200.  Didn't look at any others but I liked the idea of the built in camera.  Just saying, Don
