Title: A few what is it pictures?
Post by: jmblake on January 27, 2016, 12:35:39 PM
Well I finally got the donner bus in the shop and was rolling around under it and spoted a few unfamilier items. and not sure if I need them in the transplant or not. It is a 1994 Gillig Phantom.
First one looks like a pump with coolant lines hooked to it, the wire is unhooked to it, and it is tucked up in the frame behind the drivers drive wheel

Second one is same place except on the passanger side and it has one big line from the transmission going to it and a few wires

And 3rd one is some sort of oil filter I guess, it has 1 line going to the engine oil pan and I can't see where the other one goes

Thanks Cliff, Will I need a booster pump for the front heater? Is the second one the only filter for the transmission? I didn't notice a spin on filter for it. Jason

Jason -

If you want the defroster to work properly, then yes, you'll need the booster pump.

Unless, of course, your transplant coach already has one.

FWIW & HTH. . .

No, I don't have a booster pump now and the defroster works fine. Doesnt the series 50 water pump have as much preasure as the 8V71 that it needs a extra pump. This one isn't hooked up, the wire is cut and when I drove it home the defroster seemed to work fine. Jason

The series 50 water pump is no where close to the GPM of the old 8v71 water pump fwiw

Ok, thats good to know. Cliff would you keep the spinner filter? Is there a element inside or is it just something you clean out? I noticed it had 2 spin on oil filters.

1st pic, heating water pump
3rd pic, centerfrugal oil filter, usually they take the filters out and just leave the units there.  Buddy had one explode once, created a beautiful spray of oil everywhere!

I made special wiring and switch for my booster pump and have yet to use it. The engine water pump creates plenty of pressure for heating, unless you're in a blizzard and need lots of heat. Good Luck, TomC

The centrifuge is actually pretty nice to have. I had a unit to clean diesel (diesel polishing) they are very effective. Google them. Basically it spins your oil at high speed and slings any contaminants onto the sides of the cup. Every so often you unscrew the cup and wipe it out with a rag. That's it. Jut reinstall and let it do its thing. Greatly increases the life span of your oil or if it's used for fuel, really really polishes your fuel.
