Title: Anyone fulltiming with a baby?
Post by: Scott & Heather on January 21, 2016, 12:00:18 AM
Are Heather and I the only ones here with a newborn and fulltiming? We've been fulltiming for 5 years. Emma is a little over 3 months old now. Born in Texas and within two days of her arrival she came home to....well, our bus. :) Everyone in our life has planted thoughts in our heads that it would be impossible to make this work in a bus. But nearly 4 months in, it seems perfectly normal. I don't even realize I'm living in a bus when I'm inside it. It just feels like a small well appointed cabin. When I step out the front door, I am only then reminded I live in a bus. After our recent travel of about 5500 miles in the past two months, Heather and I realized how much more sane our lives are now that we are living in our bus. Prior to our coach, it was hotels, rentals, extended stays. Stressful, constantly moving, loud neighbors above and to the sides...packing unpacking. It got old within the first year. Now with the bus, we are always home. Always. All of the crazy conventions I sang for during the tour we had our home with us. The other musicians flew in and had to deal with packing, hotels, etc. we just parked in the hotel or convention center parking lot, and I was relaxed, cozy, and had my family and home with me. The best possible scenario for us in my career. Emma has reached a point now when we do happen to get away and stay in a hotel, she won't sleep through the night and she's a bit more fussy. Put her back in her bus, and she sleeps from 9pm till 7am. Solid. No kidding. She actually knows when she's home at the ripe old age of 3 and a half months. Crazy but true. This Christmas was our first with her in the bus. We put up a slim 7.5 foot tall Christmas tree and decorated it with lights and ornaments, hung stockings, played Christmas music through our surround system, wife cooked goodies, and we watched the snow fall outside our window parked in her parents driveway in Michigan for the holidays. Honestly, I think Emma has it better than most people. Better than military brats, better than concert jungle dwellers, and even better than country folk who never leave their town. She has it all....and yet at the end of every day, she comes home to her bus. Whether in North Carolina, Florida, Texas....home truly is where your bus is.

Beautiful Baby there Bud. Sounds like you have a plan. We're downsizing also but don't think the wifey would go for the full time deal. At 62 (closer to 63) selling the small ranchito and building a new house at Lake LBJ here in Central Texas. Enjoy it while you can.

And she will benefit from the best education out there, home schooling.

It's not always the wife that doesn't want to give up the home. Sometimes it's the husband and the shop and all the stuff that't in it. LOL  I could hit the road and never stop.

Cary, you're like my wife. I always have longings to settle down a little someday. She doesn't. Her longing is to be on the road as long as health allows. You two are peas in a pod.

Please, Scott, Heather and Emma,

Don't stop!

Seeing the world, and interacting with it, with the touchstone of your own bed to sleep in at night...

Where would the life experience that flows from that come from?

The family is TOGETHER on the road in a bus, with a span of control that public conveyances do not have.

And as you noted, hotels are not a vacation for those who use 'em for working.

Stay the course!

happy coaching!

About 60 miles west of Austin. Bought lots across the street from lake. Throw a rock and hit it. Just getting started on planning and building. Lived on Lake Travis right outside of Austin for years but it wasn't constant level and that thing went up and down like a bathtub. Mostly down. LBJ is constant level.

I don't know many yet, but seeing you as the couple Its been really great watching the prior build photos, I thought that was tops as a cool couple.
Now! I don't think I could imagine a better Christmas with a blessed little one for a gift under that tree.
I say keep rolling, and thanks for the motivator, though my 3 in their 20's already tell me what should be where and still constantly say when when when.
have a great day, fulltiming family!

thanks for sharing the goodtime pics
Floyd

Stay at it Scott. We raised out baby on the road. Motels, evangelist quarters, vans, cars, fifth wheels and for the last 8 years, the bus. The bus is definitely the best. But we would not trade the road life for all the rest.

Now, I eventually would like to build my little girl (Now 30) a house but not for me and Mama!

Scott -

You sound like Angie!!

Had a great visit with the Herd of Turtles this last week; amazing how the Turtlettes have grown since I saw them last year.

Emma is one lucky little girl!

We are making some pretty amazing memories. My wife and daughter are with me every day of the week and most weekends. I was away from them literally 7 days last year. That's it. I love this life as long as it lasts. Angie and Sean are really kindred hearts of ours. We will be parked in the same rv park as them  for a few weeks in March/April :)

Scott I have followed your posts the past five years, you are living the life most of us wish we could, I guess home is where the heart is and your bus is your home I wouldn't change a thing, And obviously your wife and daughter feel the same, live your dream as long as you can.>>>> John.
