Making our way back West now. In Beaumont this morning. Aiming for San Antonio tonight. Down to 2 gal of oil. Should get us home. Using about a gal every 1500-2000 miles. To be on safe side and to make me feel better, I would like to have 3 or 4 gal on hand. I have looked everywhere for it, and nobody has it. I called a Napa in S Antonio, they don't even know what I am talking about. I cannot find the part number that has been posted here a few times. We are planning on sticking to I 10 as far as Arizona, to stay below the winter weather. Thanks.
JC
JC, quite a while back when I still owned the 4107, I found the oil in stock at O'Reilley's auto parts in the Dallas area. You might want to check with them.

I-10 sounds good on paper to avoid winter weather. But beware of weather once you get into west Texas all the way to Tucson, AZ. Roads can freeze and get snow. This time of year, you could run SAE30 in a pinch. But CF-2 sae40 is the best. Around Houston you should be able to find the oil since you're close to the gulf there. Good luck, TomC
Hey JC, just picked up some from O'Reilley's La Grange Tx. last week and have to order it in everytime. I'm Just West of Houston about 100 miles off I10 North of Flatonia Tx. about 18 miles and if you can't find any local, holler, can meet up and will give you a case or 2. (3 gallons in there case). it's (Chevron Delo - Motor Oil, Part # 100-40-1) on there site. My La Grange Napa said they quit making it. False.
Just checked and they do have it at O Reilley's HOUSTON 18722 Tomball Parkway (281) 469-2021 and TOMBALL 28623 State Hwy 249 (281) 351-4931 stores. Hope that helps, and like I said, if you need it holler. Cell (Four 3 two four 2 five eight 8 0 four).
JC,Gator Junction BBQ will have it on the self between exit 810 and Hiway 563 the Anahauc exits off I 10 on the south side I see his fuel $2.11.If want bulk by the case or 5 gals go to Liberty there is Chevron dealer at the Trinity River 20 miles but hiway 90 will run back into I 10.It's not hard to find in that area starts getting harder to find past Channelveiw. If you want to wait you can get it at Sun Coast in San Antonio they are on frontage road of I 10 west (5802) across I 10 from Pilot and Stewart and Stevenson close to another major truck stop I forgot the name of damit lol I remember the restaurant it is the Iron Skillet
J.C. Delvac 1240, and Rotella t 40 are sometimes easier to find at napa.

Rusty
the good stuff was 1:49 in SC last weed. Just do not let the dot people catch you with it. 1:69 for the other stuff.
By the way the spring is working good now.
uncle ned
It a $1.70 off I 10 in that area Gator is always higher,it is a buck 70 all over Phoenix, where I live for some reason it is over 2 bucks at a RV pump
JC, are you coming to the rally at Q-site?
most tractor supply has rotella straight 40 weight 4 or 5 gallon in stock if you can find one, last time I got it there it was 12.99 gal, compared to 19.99 gal at napa
I stopped at Sun Coast on the East side of San Antonio off I 10 and got a case of Delo 400 SAE 40. Not familiar with it though: the jug says CF (not CF2), "for older Detroit diesel engines". $11.68/gal. Yea fuel is cheaper: below $2. I paid $1.94 yesterday in Mississippi.
Not sure about Q. We are in San Antonio for 2 nights for sightseeing. We'll see how it goes.
JC
Just paid 2.34 in Bakerfield ca & 2.46 in Bolon ca
For diesel

JC -For awhile, Delo 400 was approved for two-stroke use, but Chevron changed the formula and it lost it's approval. It should get you buy as spare until you get home, tho.
Which reminds me. . . I need to load a case of oil into the baggage bin before I leave for Q on Wednesday morning. Fortunately, I've got 9 cases in my storage unit. . . :)
Say hello to Valerie!
FWIW & HTH. . .
;)
I looked up the description for delo 400, and see that they sold me the wrong oil. It is not recommended for 2 stroke Detroits. Delo 100 is the correct oil right? I'll see if I can return it and get the 100.
JC
Ask for CD ll the CF-2 is a obsolete API classification
Any O Rielley's can get the right stuff overnight on an order. (Chevron Delo - Motor Oil, Part # 100-40-1)
I was reading the specs on the 400 last night looks like Chevron is playing games again, they are complying with the EPA mandate of less than .1% ash in the 400.I lmao at the specs to protect the 100 read this all is good till the get to the 30 and 40w their best sellers in the 100
ash%
10w .95 down from 1.27%
20w .95
30w 1.50 up from 1.27 %
40w 1.50
50w .95
what gives with that outfit "older Detroit Diesel Engine" single weight oil was never recommend for the 4 stroke Detroit's it always been 15/40
Good to hear from you Ned. The fuel is getting cheaper the further west we go but do not plan on going into Cali then it goes back up. i could of used some of the magic alixer couple of days ago when the flu bug got me.

Still in San Antonio. I returned the Delo 400 this morning. They don't have the 100 on hand and would have to order it. I didn't go for it as we are leaving tomorrow morning.

Find a supplier near you and purchase the MTU/Detroit Diesel oil. I get mine from United Engines. Jim H
JC, Stewart Stevenson Detroit on East I 10 in San Antone probably would have Delo 100.
If no local stores have it available and you have an address for a few days, our advertisers on Amazon can ship straight 40w Rotella direct to your location.
Kind Regards, Phil
I was at a friends and he has been using delo 400 in his bus. I told him that it was not cf2 rated. The bottle of Delo 400 has a rating of CF. I'm not sure what the difference between CF and CF2 is. So then I grab the bottle of MTU Mobile Delvac 40w specifically made for 2 stroke detroits and it's also only rated at CF and not CF2 listed on the bottle. So what's up with that?
Well due to this oil conversation I read the printing on my last jug of 400-40 wgt. and it does say, not for 2 stroke engines, I did go to o,rilleys in Yuma and they had delo 100 in stock,
Oil schmoil. I just put in delvac 1240....works for me. Considering how much oil leaks and burns in these beasts, it's almost like a fuel....and it's a rare fuel you can't hardly find anywhere. So why do we drive them? Sigh.

I still have 2 gal of 40w from home (I get the Supertech CF2 available at most W Marts in Canada). And, as mentioned earlier, I bought 2 gals of Rotella T1 at a gas station a few days ago. So this will get me home. I had an extra pail that I used for an oil change on the way down (on the side of the street near Houston). Getting rid of the used oil is a lot easier than finding the new stuff: an O'Reilly took it, a couple of blocks away. I don't need an oil change until after I get home, so I'll be fine. Thanks everybody for looking for me.
JC
I just got 2 x 5 gal. pails of supertech cf2 from walmart canada for $52 each and it scares me that some day they may be gone . the guy at my walmart said they have sold it for years . maybe it is time to stock up
