Got the donor bus home last nite ;D, Now the wife and everybody that seen it doesn't want me to tear it apart, they want to keep it LOL.
I'm with the family.. I like that bus.
If I was going to build again - what would I start with ? ???
So, what are you taking out of it Jason? Series 60?
Does that have a bicycle rack on the front? You take the engine, I want the bike rack.
Dave, Its a Series 50, I would like to have a Series 60 but I don't think I could stuff one in there. as far as the bike rack all thats there is the brackets but you can have them :)

That was a nice weekend trip Jason it's probably is going to be a big help to you with configuring your setup ? was 6th gear locked out
good luck
As far as transits go, that Gillig is an easy conversion since the side walls are straight and it is considered to be a high floor with about 22" of underfloor space. I wished my bus had straight walls, but was just a bit harder with three different angles in it. The Series 50 will be a great engine. You'll be tickled with the fuel mileage and the performance will be about like a strong running 6V-92TA. Good Luck, TomC
Someone remind me what a strong running 6v92 is like?
Lol

mine is like a rocket ! well almost ! when I was less then 39,000 lbs truck , r/v the slowest I was on any of the hills on I 79 , I 77 , was 45 mph ( highest hill was 36,000 ' ) not like the west coast hills . now with the new truck , trailer my weight is over 41,000 lbs and my power is not the same . :[
my best guess is 350 -370 hp and my mpg is 6.5 - 7.2 mpg on average . would I like more power ! heck ya 675 hp sounds good
dave
edit oops ! ya 3,600 ' felt like thousands of feet though

Well it started off preaty rough, The bus had 3 air leaks we had to fix then the compressor wouldn't kick off so we went and got a new govenor and replace it then the front end wouldn't come up >:( found the leveling valve rod was broke off, got that fixed and finally got to take it for a ride and all seemed good to go. So we got the title done and started home and got about 5 mile and it lost power, got off the road couldn't see anything so started it back up and went a couple more miles and did it again this time I noticed as soon as it shifted into 5th gear it droped into 3rd and stayed locked untill I restarted it and it went back to normal. It did that about 20 times till I manualy shifted it only to 4th and it ran ok up to 4th gear, so we got turned around and back to the guys place were he called a mechanic that said it was going into protection mode that it might be low on fluid that they are sensitive to that. We already checked the fluid and it was in range but I figured I would give it a try and added 2qt, by this time I was almost ready to just call my loss and head home, but we already had the title noterized and they were gone till monday. So we gave it another shot and started up the road again and it semed that might have been the problem until we got about 30 mile away and it downshifted on a hill and went into the safty mode again, restarted and took off again and it lasted about 100 mile and did it one more time then it worked fine the rest of the way. The bus was only run 165 mile in the last 5 years, so I think that was part of the problem that it just needed run. Anyways to answer your question about 6th gear it must be locked out because it would only go to 5th and ran about 65MPH at the most. I do like the retarder it worked 10 times better than the jake, its just like hitting the brakes :)
