Was wandering of any one with a 60 series in a 8 or 9 is going to be in arcadia, thinking of trying this in my 8
I've heard fitting a S60 in an 8 or 9 is very difficult if not impossible, but a S50 fits well.
If you do it, please document the heck out of it.
sam at caylor told me a COUPLE OF PEOPLE HAVE DONE IT AND NOT SLIDE IN IN QUITE ALL THE WAY SO IT DOES HIT ON THE TAG CROSS MEMBER , BUT HE THIS ONE OF THEM IS NOT AROUND ANY MORE , HE CANT REMEMBER WHO THE OTHER ONE IS.THOUGHT MAYBE SOMEONE KNOWS SOMETHING ABOUT THIS
Series 60 is a big engine. I would use a Cummins ISM or Caterpillar C12. Good Luck, TomC
Several years ago I observed the crew at Luke's shop in the process of installing one in an 8 or 9, I believe. Maybe he will comment. I seem to remember talk of a two foot extension on the rear of the bus.
Bernie did one photos are on his site www.bernhardbus.com (http://www.bernhardbus.com) then Bruce did N14 in his MIC.I beleive both went to side mounted radiators
There will be at least 5 MCI's with series 50 engine's.

A fellow up in Vancouver, I think, put a Series 50 in his MCI. He stopped in for a short visit a couple years ago. It was a sweet sounding engine.
Never tried any other than the 12V-71,it fits very nice. Had it to Acadia 2 or 3 yrs. radiate acres he ra wth a pusher fan & sprayer when need.
Loved it but was freed rap $$$$$ so went to the 8V-92, much lighter.

Hey, Chuck, was that the stock motor in it or a retrofit?
I can't speak for him but many MCI's were refitted with S50's and I don't think the S50 was ever an OEM in an MCI product.
I don't know about all models but the series 50 was available in the MCI 12,the county I live in has a prisoner MCI 12 they bought new with series 50 it is a late 90's model
I bought a MCI 12 that came out of the factory with a series 50 and B500 trans. Took it out of the 12 and put it in my 102C3. My MCI 12 was built for Greyhound.

That's right I forgot about the MC12. They didn't build many of those but they were mostly for those that wanted the design of the MC9 and didn't want to switch to the 102A and 102C models yet.

Actually, the MC-12 was a special order specifically for Greyhound, but also available strictly as a prisoner transport vehicle for LE. It was generally not available to the normal customer, but a few slipped thru the cracks. About 1/2 the order came with 6V92TAs, the rest with S-50s. Several of the 92s got S-50 transplants when the 2-stroke was due for overhaul.
The 12 was basically a 96A3 below the floor and a 9 upstairs, with a few other minor changed details.
FWIW & HTH. . .
;)
The MCI 12 I speak of goes on the auction block in April,it has less than 500,000 miles total and only 80,000 miles on a new series 50 lol it is clean with no dings but man it stinks inside
So the MCI-12 would transplant right into my 9 with no mods to the craddle? If so I may be interested in that one. lol
Years ago Los Angeles Freightliner did many Grayhound conversions on 8 and 9 from the 6V-92TA to Series 50. The Series 50 was so much more efficient, one of the radiators was removed and replaced with the air to air intercooler. Some of the buses got close to 10mpg. Was about the same power as the 6V-92TA. Good Luck, TomC
what is the difference in horse power in the ser. 50 and the 6v92t
Depends on the setting you can get 370 hp from the 50 series same as you can get from the 6v92 but get more torque from the 50 series @ less rpms both are obsolete engines then more parts are available for 6v92 fwiw
Got a nice 50 with 200k for sale!!!
So, the real question is, if you had to repower tomorrow with an engine of your choice in a 102c3 what would you put in it Cliff?
