Does anyone have a part number for an Aliison 740 Filter Kit?
Looking for the kit that goes inside the pan.
Also - I'm assuming I have Dex3 tranny fluid in it as the fluid is translucent red.
Thanks.

Those are washable (or should be) it is a magnetic metal filter Sean just buy a pan gasket, new o-rings and 12 gals + or- of fluid lol you don't want to buy that screen
nor do you want to over fill it :)
Thanks Guys - Can you confirm Dex 3 is the preferred fluid (other than Transynd?)

I am not a huge fan of Dexron I like the 10/30 or 15/40 C rated oil in the 740 it shifts better, smoother and runs cooler for me Tansynd is a waste of money on a 740 IMO,the Dexron works though

Cliff -
What's C rated? Do you have a specific brand? Should I use 15/40 synthetic oil?
Thanks again.
-Sean
Regular diesel engine oil like Shell Rotela,Delo 400,Mobil 1300 or any brand C stands for compression fired engines, don't waste the money on synthetics send it to me ;D
Question: when you drain the transmission fluid, quite a bit of it remains inside. So if you refill with 15w40 oil, it mixes with the leftover Dexron. Is that ok? or should it be drained again to get rid of as much Dexron as possible. Or can you drive on with the mixture? And how would 15w40 be in cold weather?
JC
it mixes.
I cannot count the amount of Pickup trucks/car power steering system pump leak repairs that i made in the arctic and topped off with 0w30.
mixed with whatever was in there previous. It never hurt and actually "saved" a bunch of squalling pumps.
imagine for a second daily restarts at 45 below zero...
JC the 15/40 is good to 0 F the book says Dexron 111 is good to -22 F
