:o
This is a bit of a surprise but in this day and age of mergers, acquisitions, and partnerships I guess it's not so surprising. Even before I read that article, the two legacy companies will complement each others product line in the new company. Whether MCI will continue to operate as a stand alone company or become completely part of NEW FLYER is not yet known.
It will be interesting what will or anything will come of that spaghetti plate partnership with DAIMLER since MCI markets the SETRA line here. If any company would have bought MCI I would have thought DAIMLER would have but perhaps they have enough markets covered.
That should work good everyone knew the holding company would sell it off when revenues improved looks like they made a 1/4 billion of the deal LOL now the 2 major players in the bus industries are Canadian and Brazilian owned and they did have ties with Daimler and probably still do
The 2 have been working close for a few years developing the D4500 Hybrid lol that is a big bus to have a Cummins 8.9L
What will that do to the future availability and price of MCI parts? And ... how slow will that new big underpowered bus be?

I have seen those running around in Salt Lake on I 15 they get down the road at 70 mph even the CNG models MCI sells a lot of the Hibrid D4500 buses
I can't imagine New Flyer is going to cut parts support for recent MCI models. If customers can't get parts for their current buses why would buy another bus from you?
MCI already cut parts support for some older models when they went bankrupt. They sent a lot of older parts over to Vintage Parts to sell.
There is nothing to worry about MCI just position it self stronger in the bus market, most knew they would make a move to protect it's edge in the commuter coach. Prevost made it's move by opening the commuter coach manufacturing plant in New York.Right now MCI has the market with their Hybrid coaches and different engine packages Prevost is way behind but that will change in the coming years I believe
It would be nice if PREVOST would offer CUMMINS engines. After all, MCI, VAN-HOOL, and TEMSA offer them as standard or optional equipment. But the fact that PREVOST is part of the VOLVO empire would suggest that it may not happen. SETRA for understandable reasons only offers DETROIT engines since they are part of DAIMLER.
But then again on the skoolie side of things, IC BUS now offers CUMMINS in their buses. I never thought that would happen but perhaps NAVISTAR is slowly getting out of the engine business.
