Hello all.
Some vandals threw a rock threw my 1964 4106 passenger windshield and I live in this marvelous contraption ;D
I am hoping to get this fixed this month before the winter sets in but the freight from Luke's US Coach on the East coast to here in the Pacific Northwest is frightfully expensive and to I'm a disabled Vet without the sufficient use of my arms to get this job done so If anyone knows where I can lay my hands on a 1964 4106 passenger windshield and possibly a new or fairly new usable in good condition rubber sealing grommet for this windshield and someone I could impose upon with the offer of some cash, a Red Lobster Dinner and a big grateful handshake to interest him to do the job could you please respond and let me know ?
Any leads would be gratefully received.
Thanks fellas
Most larger auto glass companies should be able to procure one. It is a very common model glass. Fits either side and 4104,4106,4107,4108,4903,4905,h8h649,and h8h650's
I just talked to Luke about a windshield last week. $165 per side + 220 shipping to FL.
From what I understand the windshield gasket is not available so Im making my own from this > http://www.ebay.com/itm/291413069312 (http://www.ebay.com/itm/291413069312)
Looks like only 10 feet left. Before or after what you buy/bought?

There's also no note on whether that includes the locking strip or even if the locking strip is available. The strips are pretty available at good auto parts stores but it would be really bad to need an odd sized one and not be able to find good fit.
Also, check out what you need. That strip has a wide groove to accept the glass and a narrow groove to accept a thin edge like sheet metal. Does that match your bus? If you need two wide grooves (i.e. if the other side from the glass is thicker than just sheet metal), then using a narrow groove seal might pinch the locking cavity so much that you might not be able to get the strip in.
Coach Glass in Eugene Or close to you had those windshields a few years ago ,check with Ed at Jefferson in OKC Ok for the gaskets you never know what he has stashed he one sharp guy on GM buses.Coach Glass probably has the gasket also they have some weird gaskets plus they are nation wide
That glass seal up on ebay looks like the kind where the rubber flap shown in the side view tucks back into itself to lock it and doesn't use the rubber cord like a lot do.
Locking strip / gasket stock can be purchased new here > http://afproducts.automotivefairchild.com/viewitems/standard-weatherstrip-trim-seal-products/self-sealing-weatherstrips? It is sold on ebay by the foot, i think the guy has tons of it.
Hey Darkspeed! You have a place in Lakeland to get windshields--coach glass. olebusman
All the straight runs of the gasket has to be molded on all 4 corners or it just pops out over time even with a locking strip BTDT

OMG dont do Coach Glass, I just got off the phone with them $533 per side ++++ came out to like 1300 bucks. Glad I used Luke!
Coach Glass always includes the install in their quotes, they quoted me $735.00 for each side of the RV I picked the glass up in Phoenix they charged me $172.00 for each side lol I only broke one but was still cheaper than 1 installed . $533 is a little steep they must not stock the glass and are going to make it special.I am going to pickup a set of dark tint at the top for my MCI D and they are only $267.00 ea I pickup in Phoenix
Their shipping price is the same for 1 or 4 windshields fwiw same as Curved Glass another supplier of bus windshields

Sure does - I've never seen that before. THat would solve the problem of the locking strip shrinking an leaving a gap for water to get into.

I think the one pice strip is the more modern solution > http://afproducts.automotivefairchild.com/viewitems/standard-weatherstrip-trim-seal-products/self-sealing-weatherstrips? I just got off the phone with my guy at Coach Glass in Phoenix he said that was the retail price for insurance co's installed if you are jobber you can both for around 400 bucks with taxes.
I have idea what's going on I know I have never paid over $200 for one, all this time I thought insurance co's got a huge break from glass co's no wonder windshield installers can give you a free trip to Hawaii or free meals ::)

Perhaps it's me but I'm a little confused, I just got off the phone with Fairchild automotive and was told that they are a wholesale and would not manufacture the single piece windshield grommet for this application unless they made them in 1000 allotments, I gave her Luke contact information so maybe something will come of it.
There used to be a website with the list of Bus nuts around the country who were able and willing to help you out by working on certain areas of the bus at least we're good at if you needed the help but I've lost that website address.
Does anybody have that website address?
Does anyone have any idea of anybody who might have the rubber grommet for this windshield?

Sorry i should have said you buy it from a retailer like rockauto > https://www.rockauto.com/catalog/moreinfo.php?pk=1975564&jnid=89&jpid=5 (https://www.rockauto.com/catalog/moreinfo.php?pk=1975564&jnid=89&jpid=5)
rockauto sells the locking bead strip as well if you just need that
If this bus is only stationary and is not driven, you could use plexiglass.

Measure what you have and see if there's a match on the website that DS posted a few above. Usually you can find something that will fit. That way you'll be buying from their stock that they are already making. And, who knows, maybe that company (or one that they bought out 30 years ago) made the original gasket and it's still in their current catalog list. Many vehicles use the same gasket. And a company making a few hundred buses a year would probably use a gasket that was already being made for more high-production vehicles.
Particularly, what you're looking for is the width of the slot for the windshield, the depth of that slot, the thickness of the center area between the slots and finally the width and depth of the slot for the side opposite the windshield. As I mentioned above, if you're installing on the edge of sheet metal, you'll probably have an easier time finding a match (or near match - there's some give in the rubber material so it will stretch and move a bit -- but ONLY A BIT) for the gasket.
Even if the gasket in there looks OK and appears re-usable, it's probably a good idea to use a new one; a new one will be a lot more pliable and may seal better than an old one.
I read a post some years ago that said when Prevost started using the curved glass windows they were wind shields from the GM buses If that's true there should be plenty around . Richard
I heard that bs too they are not even close by my measurements

That is not true. I had herd the same thing.
So far nobody is making the weather stripping for the GM parlor coaches anymore. You will need to find a universal gasket and locking strip that will work for your application. You might try IBP industries in Florida. Last time I spoke to them, about a year ago, they were out of stock but were going to look into finding a supplier.

If you have insurance in Florida it will pay for your windshield.

Take a look at the technomadia website. They just had a windshield installed in their 4106 and it seemed to be quite painless. Good luck, Phil
I did my mc5 windshields. got them from universal coach 250.00 with shipping. Gaskets were 45.00ish. I did them myself, took me about 2 hours for the first on 45 min for the second one. i borrowed a friends scafolding and went at it.
