I just took a while to read all of the old threads on this subject but nothing very current..
What is the best method to insulate for heat and sound above the engine?
I know lead was the best solution but I have not seen lead sheet in quite some time.
2" icynene insulation? 4" icynene insulation?
I can get 3/4 rubber 4 x 6 mats at Tractor supply...
I even read of someone using durarock?
My bus floor is 3/4 ply + 2" icynene insulation + 3/4 ply sandwich, what should I add to that above the engine?
Thank you!
Is math and metal related to lath and plaster? (LOL)
I read a post where prevost got into trouble with MLV. Any idea what brand?
I was thinking of using some Dynamat as I have always had good results with it.
Marine engine room insulation is where I'd start looking.
This looks like good stuff -

I am probably missing something but my Eagle just has the original flooring with access panels and 1/2'' plywood over that and a carpet runner between the beds. I can hardly hear it running and when I drove it a few weeks ago I did not notice the rear of the bus getting any warmer than the front.
I have not used it in cold weather, matter of fact I have not used it at all but was curios as to the need for all the insulation. ???
Wes
Wes,buy the wraps for the manifolds, pipes and turbo from Thermal Technologies the heat goes away. I would not worry about trying to insulate the compartment on a Eagle.
I had a sheet of lead in the bedroom for the sound deadening worked good for me
I've studied sound isolation a little and it seems more in depth than I could have ever imagined. If you want acoustic level isolation you need to lay down a custom and purpose built system. Sometimes that involves a combo of things, sheet rock, sound isolation caulk, lead, absorption mat. From what I've read rubber mat doesn't do as much good as one would expect. But I'm no expert. Lead, acoustic mat or sound deadening heavy vinyl mat and Sheetrock might be combined to help reduce noise and heat. FWIW, I laid firerock sheetrock down in our bedroom over the engine area. This provides a rated 90 minute fire barrier thus preventing Heather and I from cooking like two hot dogs on a grill if the engine were to catch fire

Lead lined gypsum board is available, I have no idea how it would last in a bus it's used in xray labs in the hospitals
You can order sheet lead from McMaster-Carr. I get it there for use as chimney flashing
I used Soundown lead/foam insulation over my rear engine deck (on inside of the bus). You can get it in different thicknesses. I bought the 2 inch thickness for my purpose. It has an adhesive side with a peel off sheet, so it will stick on clean surfaces. It has performed excellent. The product number on my invoice was IVF2020MPSFT, for what it's worth.

If I remove my hearing aids it gets really quiet. The batteries last longer too. ;D ;D ;D
