Title: Lost air pressure
Post by: Raymond smith on September 14, 2015, 02:28:15 PM
On my 4104  671 the air compressor stopped pumping. What connects it to the engine and are parts available. Expensive fix?  Thanks in advance. Raymond

Not pumping doesn't necessarily mean not turning.

There are valves involved both inside the comp and just after the comp outlet.

Check that one first then the comp.

I should know better. Sorry. And now the rest of the story. Made it 40 miles before i was stopped. Checked the unloaders then took the main line off compressor and nothing coming out. So it was pumping and then it said no more air for you and i was stopped with maxis on. I suspect it is not turning. Will not be taking apart for 2 weeks. Just want to know what i am up against. Thanks Raymond

Most of those were fiber gear driven the fiber just wears downs and slips if original. No fiber gears left around I have saw but the newer updated metal drive works fine easy to find or it could be just the key stripped in the drive

The factory fibre gear on our 4104 stripped several years ago. Changed it over to a steel one. The fibre one was used in case it failed in pieces, it wouldn't take out the engine gear train.
