What is the currently preferred Air Dryer if installing from scratch? AD-IS? AD9?
Thank you!
The AD-9 is the standard it seems for the older stuff, truck wrecking yard have those for 50 bucks +or - a few dollars
Thanks Clifford, any advantage to going with a more modern unit?
No
Ok, Thank you!
I did the ad9 2 years ago and all is good

The only advantage to using a current day air dryer is most now have spin on desiccant cartridges. Makes servicing your air dryer a ton easier, but more expensive. However the cartridge doesn't have to replaced that often. Most here will not be putting on >5000 miles a year but there are a few.
Remember you are not married to Bendix the Haldex and Wabco are good dryers I forgot the model but I like Haldex some Prevost used
I put the IS with the spin cartridge on this year. Only reason was for availability and ease of changing the catridge. Weve put 5-10k on the bus a year for the past two years.
I think I paid about 250 new.

I have a Haldex on my my bus that works just fine. No problems. AD-9 on the truck. Good Luck, TomC
does anyone have a pressure regulator/check valve before their air dryer?
I'm curious!
No.
No but you see a lot of Transit buses that had the air starter with a fast fill valve there it was a regulator/check valve
perfect as i've removed mine.. I never use the fast fill so i'm happy..
the one installed was some horrible Webco that costs $400 and with no PSI setting I was having to guess the air flow!
