Title: Water pump ?
Post by: goldgiter on September 12, 2015, 03:30:04 PM
I have a 50 gal fresh water tank and a 100 gal black/ gray tank.
I am adding another 45 gal fresh water tank and am wandering if I can use 1 pump for both tanks if I tie the new tank in on the inlet side of the pump.
Both tanks are the same height and I have a tru flow pump.
Tanks are about 3 ft apart.

The lateral distance does not matter that much.  Same tank bottom height?  Just use fairly large suction diameter hose or pipe.  Mount the single pump as low as possible.  Mount the tank feed outlets as low as possible and the same height.  Consider a catastrophic failure/leak drain hole?

I have two potable H2o tanks and one pump. I also have an isolation valve. just because.

Yes. If your two tanks are tied together, the water will be the same level in both tanks all the time. The pump doesn't care. It just pumps water. There is no
more pressure on the pump inlet by adding another tank at the same level.

I recommend adding ball valves on each tank, even if you decide to leave them open and tied together. If you should ever have a failure of one tank or the
line from it, you can isolate it and still have the second tank available.

In my system, I have tanks mounted to the top of the ceiling of the bay, and one larger tank on the floor. The upper tanks are tied together and have a separate
valve for them. I pull water from the lower tank until it gets down to about 1/4 or so, and then I open the valve for the upper tanks and let them drain down into the l
tank. Have to remember to shut off the valve, though, or the pump pulls air from the upper tanks.

Thanks for the replies, confirmed what I thought I knew.
HB I did put a catastrophic failure drain hole under the waste tank, just in case! ;)
