Title: PD-4104 question
Post by: thejumpsuitman on August 27, 2015, 08:17:08 PM
Hello, I am curious about something... I have noticed that some 4104's have a license plate bezel and trim on either side and some don't.  Did they come both ways?  Or did someone just remove the trim on some 4104's?.

I think they came with it as the one I owned had one front and rear. They actually opened and the license plate bolted to a metal plate on the inside that was easily removable for transfer to other buses or state plates, but I'm just guessing.

In the top picture of the bus without trim, there are no holes or evidence that it ever had the trim (although holes could have been covered), but you can see that there was a license plate there.

After that one cylinder issue was resolved we never had another problem.

In my research I have found the the front license plate holder was a stock item on the 4104. The concept was that it had space available for 6 mounted license plates and space for 2 more. In old times, some states required buses to be licensed to their state. So when the bus driver got to a state line, he got out and displayed the correct plate. Some companies spec'd buses to be delivered without them.
