Title: Mystery vents. OTR heating vents?
Post by: andyps on August 27, 2015, 01:19:03 PM
We're in the process of pulling the old carpet and one of the built-in couches in the front of our 4106.

Under both the couches are vents that go under the bus. They are vented up into the couch box and then out a vent on the front of the couch box (does that make sense?).

Are these OTR heating vents?

Can I close one off?

The one under the couch we are removing will be in the way of some cabinet storage (with TV) that are replacing it. What are my options? Thanks!

Here's the one I don't want or need to move:

On my 61 4106 there is an otr heat vent on the driver side about 10 feet back.    On the passenger side there is a housing that runs the length of the bus and there is a couple of vents but it may have been modified by the previous owner.

My 4106 still has the OTR heating system in operating condition. The "vent" on the right side is the mechanics for the temperature control. If you are using the original heating system you might want to take another look before you gut the controls. I am aware of there being several different control systems for the heating so yours might not be the same as mine. Our 06 is #1885.

Andy -

Both of those vents are intakes for the OEM OTR HVAC system.

If you're still using the factory heat, you need to keep them.  If you're pulling out, or have already pulled out, the factory heat & AC components, then you can remove these.

FWIW & HTH. . .

;)

The one I want to modify is the one of the left. It's just a vent. Maybe I'll just go flush with it on the floor and install a decent register. That would be better than the raised one it has now. Thanks!

I still have my OTR system. Heat works, AC doesn't (well it blows, but not cold). I kind of like the idea of keeping it so I can have it repaired in the future, but that seems very costly and tough to maintain.

So maybe for now I can duct that single duct differently after I remove that couch.
