I have a problem installing a door latch I bought the Tri/Mark 2650 I purchased the inside for a thicker door it goes out to 1.78 in that is the largest they sell but my door is 2-1/4 inches thick without the inside panel.
Someone know of a latch I can buy that will work on a 2-7/8 inch thick door with 4x6in cut out it's a bummer I spent all day drilling holes in S/S and doing the cut out 4x6in all in vain I guess
Cliff,
Can you use longer screws and make it work? Maybe modify the inside of the handle...weld an extension? Just thinking out loud. We had that same problem with ours and longer screws worked.

Clifford
Could you resess the inside into the door.
Rick
I could recess it but really want it flush on the inside Rick,Sean longer screws won't help the inside part has a small dog to open the latch that part has to reach the outside part to open the door.
Tri/Mark sent me longer lock handles, screws and dog latch for the 1-7/8 door but it still a 1/2in or better to short
When I put a simple key lock on my door I had to make two out of one, welded something longer. I went through a couple of locksmiths, could not find a lockset suitable for a door of our depth.

I found the one MCI used on their D,E and J motor home chassis a manual type and MCI is proud of it 900 bucks with free shipping ;D back to drawing board.
I already have the door welded up and the body work done from a previous door latch and don't won't to redo all the work.
Mine still has the MCI dead bolt that uses a Ford key I am going to keep it and the air lock at the top of the door I just need some ideas
I've got the same problem. That's why I'm going to find someone to make me one of these...
paul, i know where you got that photo ^ lol! don't tell cliff.... :o he's not too fond of sammy boy. none of us are.
And that's why i used a stainless normal house lock/deadbolt. All I had to to was buy longer screws from Fastenal.
Have you tried their tech support to see if they have a solution or a substitute?
Hey Clifford
I went to a local truck salvage yard and found a door on a diamond reo truck was thick like my prevost. I removed it and installed. I did buy a lockset from a salvaged prevost from the vision people in KY. All the parts are there but when I got it, they failed to tell me the parts needed lots of cleaning and shinning which I didn't want to do. If you or someone else would like it, I would take $100 (even though they charged me $200 for it) plus shipping and if you get it and want your money back, once returned prepaid, I would refund your money.
On the deadbolt, though you said you had it, I found a company in AZ, I think Tucson, that made custom home doors and offered a deadbolt for the thick doors.
The truck lockset was only $50 but the deadbolt was $300.

Hi Clifford,
I also installed the Tri-Mark latch and had the same problem but an easy fix with longer screws
as stated above. It's a good solid system for a heavy door too...
Nick-
When I add spacers and longer screws the paddle latch dog on the inside handle doesn't reach the slide to unlock it from the inside. The Tri/Mark people are a great bunch to deal with they are working on a fix for me @ no charge
Cliff - it sounds as simple as welding a piece of metal on the end of the latch to reach.
Can you post some pictures?
