Title: How to wire up Tripp Lite RV Inverter / Charger 3000W
Post by: Danny Holder on July 21, 2015, 01:24:08 PM
I bought a Tripp Lite RV Inverter / Charger 3000W a while back and am ready to hoop it up.  I am confused about how to wire up the unit.  It is a hard wired configuration with an AC IN 1 and 2 as well as AC OUT 1 and 2.  I know this is a basic question - but, how are these to be wired up?

Thanks for your help,
Danny

Don't know if you have manual or not. Here is a link and info you want is on page 11. (if it is the same unit)

Did you not get a manual with the unit, or is there no manual available on line?  Ha. Timkar beat me.   ;D

I didn't get a manual with it.  I did find the manual on line, however.  I've read it but still have questions.  I think I am missing the obvious.

I'm assuming the AC OUT would go to a sub-panel of the things I need the inverter to power.   My questions are as follows:
(1) Does the AC IN 1 and 2 connect to generator and the shore power?
(2) What is the purpose of in AC IN 1 and 2?

Thanks,
Danny

Bit confusing manual.

You are correct that AC 1, AC 2 is the output which is connected to you house system.

The confusing part is that the unit can have power supplied either by the battery ( inverter mode) or in my words, 'pass through' mode.  The pass through mode is like you said, AC 1,2 input is plugged into shore power and simply uses the inverter to distribute the power into the connected house system.

It looks like the inverter will automatically switch off the batteries if you are plug into shore power.

Thanks for the information....  I have been hesitant about hooking this up for fear of hooking it up wrong.

Just an aside.  I own 2 PV4000 Tripplite inverters.  Well made unit, no complaints.  That is until the friggin' power slide switch fell apart.  I thought no problem, call them and order a new switch.  Nope.   They don't stock any repair parts.  If the unit is under warrentee, they will send you a new unit and the broken unit goes to the scrapper.  No repairs, ever!!   They don't even have an authorized repair center.   If you ever need service after the warentee expires, good luck.  Hope you know a good electronic man.   Just trying to keep you ahead of the curve ;).

Be careful how you hook that thing up. My xantrex says inputs 1 and 2 are only to be used simultaniously if the input is 240 volt, 120 on each leg.

mine too.

the gen or shore is determined via a transfer switch ... auto or otherwise.
