Post by: eagle19952 on July 01, 2015, 08:39:35 PM
Came upon this site and thought you'all might find it useful mapping bus trips.

it will show what the slope is on almost any road you choose to map.

after you get the map hover your mouse on the graph on the right , kinda helpful. it's called "flattest route"

Find it here:

http://www.flattestroute.com/ (http://www.flattestroute.com/)

oops, corrected URL  ???

Booked marked and thank you.  Very useful while riding a bicycle.  Also useful with low powered Bus Conversions.  But my old Crown Supercoach didn't really care.  It was slow going up any grade.  Also slow going down.  Good Jake.  HB :)

Google Maps (GM) and Earth (GE) will show you elevation graph for your entire route. I discovered that you can plan a route in GM, alter route any way you want by dragging a dot on route to where you want to go and then save as a GE file. Then open GE and open the file. In GE, place you cursor on your route and right click. Click on "show elevation profile". At the top of the profile you'll see the maximum uphill grad and max. downhill grade. If you move the cursor along the graph it displays the altitude and grade for any point on your route. You can zoom in on any part of your route, drag the cursor along the profile graph and a red arrow will appear on your route displaying the grade and altitude. I was able to find a route to get to Gardiner, MT (Yellowstone) without taking a long, steep climb, staying under 3% grade the whole way. GE gives you more detail, but your site is easier to use. Thanks!

I've been using Google Earth and Maps, but this site seems to eliminate a lot of the work if these are the only results you're looking for. Thanks. I saved it to my faves to play with in the future.
