Title: Planning another excellent adventure, need road information
Post by: JohnVickrey on June 26, 2015, 04:01:44 PM
What does the Pennsylvania Turnpike from Gettysburg PA to Akron, OH look like.  Are there really long steep grades?  6-71 pushing 26,000 lbs.  278 horsepower on a good day ;D

No problems John, if Dinahmoe can do it you can. The tunnels are an experience! You get curves hills and nice scenery. Stay in the fast lane, everyone loves that! ;)

Don't remember the road, but western PA has some hills!  I-70 PA thru WV into OH has some 6% grades! BTDT in my '04.
I remember I-76 being a little flatter as it goes NW from Pitt towards YoTown.  What's in Akron?

I do hope Dave is kidding about left lane.  That will get you many, many, many one-finger waves; maybe even a rear-ender.

Have a good trip.

Ted

John,

I don't think any are more than 4%.  What will hurt is the wallet!  The turnpike has a website that you can look up tolls.  You might be able to e-mail a question about grades.

I am only 30 miles from Gettysburg in York.  Let me know when you're coming, and maybe we can get together.

John,

I just get down to 2nd or 1st and enjoy the scenery, the actual delay is minor.

My 4107 w/8v is no faster on the hills, it is a lot heavier than the 4104.

If I was driving,I'd be going by I70 or I80 because of the high tolls. Check
511pa for road construction issues, which ever way you go.

I remember it as quite hilly, but there is no way to get across the mountains without going up a hill.

Thanks all for your response.  I think we got it figured out.

Dave, you are a hoot.  Bring Dinahmoe out and join us and I can follow you ;)
