Title: Fuel water separator. Is it worth changing over?
Post by: Scott & Heather on June 15, 2015, 06:13:43 AM
Looking at fuel filters online and Luber Finer has a replacement fuel filter that is also a water separator. What are your thoughts on this? Is it worth changing over to a water fuel separator type filter for my 8v92TA? Or is this something better suited to high pressure rail motors?

The original primary filter IS a water separator.  If you want, you can buy the same filter you are running with a drain at the bottom of the filter in case you DO pick up some water or just want to occasionally want to drain the primary to check.  I don't have the filter number with the drain handy.

Oh ok! Got it. Makes sense. Thanks Geoff! I have the part number. I'll just order the normal filters sans the drain for noe

I'm looking at a Davco 382. I like the idea of visually seeing when to change the filter. Also you won't loose prime when you change.

Scott, check and see if your filter is a Racor-490r I like the Racor with the primer they cost a lot less than Davco too

Nope mine is just a Luber finer. But it does not have a drain. I just thought before I ordered a new one that I might buy one with a drain. But alas, I have two sets of DD genuine parts fuel filters still in their shrink wrap that were destined for my 6v92 but it already has brand new filters on it so I'm installing one brand new set on the 8v92 this weekend. Kinda driving me nuts having two buses. This was a mistake :-)
