Title: fan miter box
Post by: skytrends on June 11, 2015, 07:24:30 AM
Looks like the pillow block behind the drive pulley is trying to sieze. Question I have is, can I remove the 4 bolts that hold the pillow block or the bigger cover behind it and remove it shaft pulley and all or must the pulley come off 1st? Reason is I don't think I, can get the pulley off as it's in a tight space. Thanks

No mine has the motor front to back. It's the front bearing right behind the belt pulley. Having a tuff time trying to get someone to work on it..I found a guy that's going to work on it tomorrow.! I'm pretty sure the bearing is findable

Maybe he will but, it is a very hard place to get at. Whatever way he goes it will be a challenge. I just hope he can get the bearing on a Friday in Rapid City, SD.

Saw the photos that is same mitre box Eagle uses bearings and seals are off the shelf at a bearing supply. If the gears are bad there are plenty of those around, like Donald said remove the box where you can replace all the bearing and preload the bearings

Well he's got it apart on the bench. A couple of bad bearings. The shaft that turns the pulley where the bearing sits, because of bearing cutting in to shaft has to be peened or machined and bushed

Where in Rapid City did you take your rig? If you need anything, I live here and can guide you towards any parts or service you need.

Thanks Bruce. We finally got it fixed yesterday about 3:30 pm and drove up to Mt. Rushmore. I'll tell you Rapid City is kind of a tuff place to break down some of the shops were so slammed with work they were telling me that it would be next month before they could get to it. Dan, at Rapid Refrigeration was the only one that said he'd get to it within a day. He did charge me $1300 and I found Hill machine shop and got them to weld and turn down the shaft for $120. Dan's bill was going to be $1600 but, he cut it because I, put unit back in myself.
