I have a oil leak that is covering the back of the bus, it has gotten worse over time, currently using about 1 Gallon of oil per 250 miles. Any ideas, turbo?
Power wash the engine and start looking is the best if no signs of leaks then it will be a internal problem.Do you have smoke ?
Very little smoke when I first start it and a little when I first start driving on the first drive of the day
I hope it's not your end plates leaking like mine. a gallon every 300 miles is where I'm at. Gonna havta rebuild very soon. you ready Clifford? Lol
LOL don't feel bad about the 8v71 or 8v92 leaking I am sick of fixing oil leaks on the M11 and L10 Cummins engines they leak with the best of the 2 strokes
It leaves a trail. And it looks like it might be leaking from the oil breather. Any advise would be helpful. It makes a huge mess on the back of the bus. After a 3 hour drive the entire rear of the bus is covered in fresh oil from the bumper to the top of the rear running lights.
Also on the first start up of the day, it smokes a Lille white smoke. Not a lot and it usually cleans up fairly quickly. I have heard white smoke is not a good indication, can some one please elaborate
Power wash it good but don't drive the bus run the engine at 1200 to 1500 rpm for 10 minutes the leak will show up.If you have a steady flow from the air box drains @ those rpm then service the check valves and if you get a steady flow of oil from the drains at idle you may have a problem.White smoke on start up what is the ambient temperature ? a bad turbo should smoke all the time either white or black smoke.Check the back of the engine 90% of leaks on a 8v92 are at the rear or blower area fwiw and again you won't find the leak source driving the bus

OK, this always confuses me, the real back of the engine which is facing the front in the bus or the back of the engine which is actually in the back?

Hi All, the front of the engine, is where the fan belts are, the back is where the transmission attaches to the engine block, whether the front of the engine faces rearward, frontward or sideways on the bus body. on a MCI vintage bus, there is about a 9' belt from the pulley, with a large harmonic ballancer,, at the bottom of the engine, on an 8V92, to the squrriel cage fans, in the air box above the engine. lvmci...
It's usually pretty cold when it smokes. Well I'll tackle it on my next days off. Wish me luck.
They smoke a little when below 50 degrees that's nothing to worry about
