Title: Heading to the mountains of Colorado for the 4th of July. Need to fix jakes.
Post by: RickB on June 03, 2015, 04:46:04 PM
Hey guys,

I currently only have one cylinder bank on my jakes. The drivers side cylinders are not working and my friend got a no resistance reading when he checked to see where the problem is so it's not the dash switch or the buffer switch. So, first off I'm gonna do an engine degrease and a complete pressure wash of the engine compartment and then I'm going to pull the valve cover and see what the problem is. I'm assuming the only thing that go wrong with these electrically at the head is a broken or disconnected wire. Any other thoughts before I get up to my elbows into this?

Staying in Buena Vista and although I could avoid the mountains I'm thinking I actually want to see how the rebuilt cooling system copes with the altitude and the long pulls. What's the worst that could happen? Blow the motor? Then I get my 8V92. I know it's kinda evil but the wife is none the wiser.

If the wiring checks out good, you could, with the covers off, listen for the solenoids to click when you jumper the wires before the buffer switch. If they click, then get a rebuild kit and overhaul them. It really is quite easy with the manual, which you can download from the Jacobs site.
