Title: Not totally sure what it is
Post by: PRZNBUS on June 02, 2015, 11:33:13 AM
I have several of these on the drivers side heater duct and none on the passenger side. Is it some sort of temperature dohicky?

I only found 1 temperature sensor on my bus (MC-12).  I think it was on drivers side around the last baggage door area.  It didn't look anything like that from what I can remember.
Is that part removable without grinding off the rivets?  Dose it snap in place?

I have six of them only on the drivers side. Each has two tamper proof machine screws which I have no idea how they install them. On the inside after removing the cover there is a single "prong". To get them removed from the heating duct, they need the wire cut which is why I'm asking. My parts manual for the MC9 is missing the 9 double sided pages which I think would tell me what they are. If anybody has and could scan those pages, that would be fantastic. I believe it's section 3.00-3.18.

Here are a couple more pictures. My parts manual is missing the interior section so I have no idea what these are.

if it was anything useful an inmate would have already removed it and used it to make a tattoo gun...or a radio antenna or a electric frying pan. they are resourceful like that.

My bus has these as well, and mine was never a prison bus.  I hadn't questioned them....but will do and learn us both.
In the meantime, if you still have any of the cages or dividers from that prison bus.....I got some broken-in stripper poles and a dirty pair of purple g-string panties for trade?

Looks like the bus had a hydronic heating system at one time I think those were for the Espar system

Like I said earlier, they are only on the drivers side and run on a single wire (tied in at each socket) towards the front. I still don't have a parts book to look them up.

I know you said you don't have a parts manual, but if you have a maintenance manual that wire has a circuit number printed on it so you could trace that down on the schematic. I removed mine with my OTR ac/heat, so I didn't spend much time on it. I assumed that it was a thermostat of some kind, but now I'm curious again. If you don't have a maintenance manual, post what's printed on the wire and I'll look it up this weekend.

I had two of these on my bus too. There were wires attached to them and the other end was connected to the frame of an existing (stock) seat. I thought that it must be a ground wire for some reason. Danny
