Drove our new to us 1992 MCI102C3 shell home today. Will be driving her to Michigan this summer to store until conversion process starts. Heather and I are officially bus nuts and officially mental. Here's the specs:

Having seven?
One member of our Crown group has six Crowns and a Gillig, and another member has an ever-fluctuating number of buses, I think about four or five maybe. With the other buses the rest of us Crownaholics own (I'm one of the few with only one), we joke that we have more buses than some school districts. And these are not all school buses - we have plenty of rarities and one-offs just to make things interesting, such as a Crown TV truck (it's a real truck, not a bus), an Atomic high-level tour bus, two Yellowstone tour buses, a 1955 tandem with a military-style drive axle and belt drive to the other, and even an original Embree bus. Fun! At our annual get-together last weekend we convoyed six buses around town, and made enough smoke to completely undo the low-emission efforts of millions of Prius owners. Take that, CARB.

I thought for a while that we'd end up with a C3. Your's has had plenty of work. Love those caps, and the reskin looks good. One of the attractive parts of a C is that the 3" extra ceiling height meant that I could live in one without bumping my head. Guess you will have no head bumping worries.
We were planning to do a four stroke swap. Probably an S-50, but I'm certainly not suggesting that you do the same. Best of luck with the project. You should start a build thread.

Hi Jim, I think on this one we probably will do a build thread. It will be a slower build than our 9 was. From purchase to full timing on that coach was about a little over a year including 9" roof raise and full strip down and rebuild conversion. Concerning our C3, we will take our time. Possibly several years to convert.

Do a build thread regardless of the time frame. Those of us who are struggling through a long project—especially while still having to earn a living—need the inspiration of seeing what others are doing.

Use Delvac 1240 oil the 8v92 will last forever lol,you can set the engine at 525 hp with 1600+lbs of torque and it will hunt with the big boys with about the same mpg
Sounds like a great project Scott. Have fun dreaming and drawing at this stage so when you are ready to start you have a great layout figured out.
The only item in question on this bus (maybe someone can help me on this) is the driver's front bearing cap leaked all it's oil out (the plug is done and the seal is bad). The previous owner is an amazing gentleman and he last night ordered a new one and new gasket for me as well as a new wiper blade and steering pump seal. Anyway, when I got home after driving the coach about 1 hour, all of the hubs registered at 100 degrees (92 ambient) except driver's front. It was 126. Wheel was warm too. Is this something to concern myself with?? Cliff, I don't know what ours is set at, but that coach accelerates up hills. And the turbo really whines on it...I'm in love with the extra two cylinders and the DDEC control. Awesome to see all those dash lights come on! :)
If it has the original MCI setting it will be 400 hp with 1375 ft/lbs of torque @ 1200 rpm the 8V92 will get down the road and that is not a bad setup for fuel mileage 7 to 8 mpg on most that I read with the Pro/Link.
The high boost pressure on the 400 helps cools the engine also enjoy the ride I am happy for you guys

I think Heather is really going to appreciate all the extra natural light coming in thru those nice big windows.
The 8V92T is basically loafing in your coach, but still, pay attention to the temp gauge, because they dont' like to run hot.
I think you should finish it in time for Arcadia this year, eh?

Thanks!!! We are more crazy than awesome :) we will be in Michigan for about 3 weeks in July for baby showers for Heather and that's about it this year :( hopefully next summer we will spend the summer home. We will be in Texas until our baby girl is born in October. After that, who knows?
