Is the box on the left which goes outside the cold air return for the heating system or something else?

It's a fresh air intake not a cold air return
Is this something I need to keep in this location or can I get the air from another location?
Bruce
I didn't keep my OTR A/C or heat, so I sealed mine over with riveted plates from the outside. I have three roof vents that provide fresh air. They have vent covers, so they're practically never closed.
I removed mine and also kept the OTR heat and A/C. There hasn't been any issues for me.
John
the fresh air vent had a lot to do with the 40 some odd passengers on the bus
on mine I have a air flapper I can turn on or off when needed ( stock ) to let fresh air in

How do you say "carsick" in Canadian?????

As others have mentioned, that is the fresh air intake to the OEM HVAC system. It's designed to provide 20% fresh air as the system is running.
IMHO, I would leave the OTR heating system, as not only does it heat the cabin while traveling, it also provides heat for the defroster. Thus I would also leave these fresh air vents operational. (My MC-5C is set up this way, very thankful it works, too!)
FWIW & HTH. . .
;)
I wish I had kept my OTR heating system...as for sealing up the vent holes, I used bondo :) Then painted...wish I had sanded it better lol:

Yeah, but according to http://www.oddee.com/item_98612.aspx, (http://www.oddee.com/item_98612.aspx,) "The average person produces about half a liter of farts every single day". Sounds to me like a "fresh air intake" is a good idea.
It's also designed to take the load off the motors for the HVAC I was told
^ I kinda wondered about that. If there is any kind of resistance or vacuum created by the blowers, it puts load on the motors. Anyway, oonrahnjay, you made me laugh out loud during a movie. Thanks buddy.

I've decided to dump the AC but keep the heat. Still up in the air on the fresh air vent, I'll look at it as I continue to disassemble the bus. Anybody need a rebuilt AC compressor or other parts?
Bruce
^ isn't the onboard a/c on those old coaches $$$ to maintain and keep running? I am glad I took mine out. My rooftops keep things cool with a genset that runs them.

Why ?
Even though it currently works, it will fail. At the price to repair the OTR system, I could probably buy three roof top units.

That's a good answer because they will fail when needed the most ;D
