Title: Oil dip strick calibration on a 8V92
Post by: BlakeWright on May 21, 2015, 06:15:59 AM
I have the oil pan off my engine and I would like to check the "FULL" and "ADD" marks on my dip stick. Does anyone know that the oil levels should be relative to the bottom of the block? Thanks, Blake.

The book only gives the amount of oil. 8V92 N, T is 25 US qts (23.7L). I thought you had a 6V92. N is 22 US qts (21L) Turbo is 25 US qts (23.7L) I can't find anything on the dipstick.

The top full mark should be 1" below the pan rail.

The 5A had the 6V, the MC-7 is an 8V.  I removed the pan to fix a leaking drain plug. The drip stick tube extends down into the oil pan and the dip stick barely comes out of the tube.  This didn't seem right.  I read somewhere that the high oil level should be 1" below the bock, but I can't verify it.

Thanks Geoff....that verifies that I read.  I was replying to Bill when you posted,  that's why it seems like I asked the question after you answered it.

I didn't realize you were starting a fleet. I remembered the 6V92 on the floor in SN Diesel after the unfortunate trip home.

The tube through the block maybe longer than the dip stick so don't worry about it, just pour 7 gals in the engine run it for 10 minutes let set for about 20 minutes check or mark your full mark

I found that my dip stick was too short, so the oil was being over filled. I shortened the tube.  Thanks

Don't think that is the engine that came in a MCI 7.  Do you have a bus or truck oil pan?  I think that would make a difference in how much oil you need.
