Amazing how fast things can change. Work these past few years has really been tough to keep up with, let alone do anything around the house. A short time ago, we saw a friends Newell classic - WOW. We were hooked. We went looking for one when we got home.
Be careful what you go looking for, you just might find it!
Now to liquidate all the stuff I collected for the Scenicruiser so we can enjoy my (new to us) Newell ;D
Nice rig, Kyle!
Guess we'll be seeing a "fire sale" of Scenic parts now, eh?
How about the fleet in the field?
;)
I'm looking forward to selling the parts actually. Will be good to help fix up a few ole 'Cruisers, so we'll see who needs what. . .
This rig runs way better than it looks.
It drives so well that it is easy to forget it is so big. Plenty of power, kept a big grin on my face the whole ride home! ;D 8)
The 8V92 didn't seem to use any oil on the 1000 mile trip home & it was easier on fuel than I expected, especially since we kept it in the left lane. ;)
Still learning what all the features are & gonna have to sort out a few little things that aren't working properly.
The CRT tvs will have to be replaced with flat screens as soon as possible - that way we will have a distraction from the salmon / rose colors in the decor :o
Newells have a huge reputation for chassis and build quality, they are built like a bus. Good choice in my opinion. Have fun with it now rather than when you are about dead!
Brian
Well, well.... And I thought you were a closet Airstream man.
Congrats, Kyle. Will we see this rig in October?
Jim
Kyle,
Good for you! Life is too short to convert a bus. Sorry ;D I converted one bus, and I will never do that again. It takes WAY too much time.
You will have a blast with your rig. Use it a lot!
John
Kyle, you might get a hold of Luke and see if he needs anything, he has one in his shop that he is putting together for a guy.
Nice rig Kyle!!
What kind of Scenic parts do you have now available?
Thanks,
Jack

RJ, The fleet in the field, aka "the orphanage" was disbanded years ago due to vandalism & idiots in the county zoning office.
One I gave away, & the seated one was sold to someone in Texas who never paid for a bunch of the parts he got from me. (from what I hear, I ain't the only one he cheated.) One was parted & scrapped & one was in my driveway & now gone.
Jim, Yes, I will absolutely be at the NonRally in October ;D
As for the parts, just email me with offers & I'll let you know.
Thanks,
pd4501fan@hotmail.com
Kyle, glade you now have a big toy to drive. That will still pull the Airstream, you would't know it was there. If I were ever to have anything other than a bus it would be a Newell.
Jack
I second the nice when it comes to NEWELL. I know the RV market is what it is and one can't argue with the free market as a whole because it works so what I'm about to say while academic, we can still question it. That is, why at least one of the RV builders can't build an RV patterned after NEWELL but in a smaller package? In other words, why not an RV built on let's say the FORD or FREIGHLINER class A chassis but the body built like a tank. I bet if someone did that and market it's longer lasting quality they would have something. Sort of bridging the gap between a NEWELL and and entry level class A type.
the Newell is built as a monocoque chassis just like an MCI, as I have seen them, that means the body and the chassis are totally one structure. That lack of a separate chassis is what makes them as strong and tough as they are, that plus the fully commercial build quality and parts.
Brian
Way to go Kyle! I think you will be very happy with the Newell. They have a fine reputation for quality fit and finish.
I look forward to seeing it at the Cove one of these days!
Mike in GA
Fair enough Bevans and I understand the design differences. I'm speaking only of the body itself. In other words, why not build a strong body on a chassis much the way a skoolie is only it would be a motorhome built of steel or aluminum only not fiberglass with plastic.

Like this?
http://www.ustruckin.blogspot.com/ (http://www.ustruckin.blogspot.com/)
No. I meant a stripped chassis.
My guess is that the chassis would get in the way & add unnecessary weight.
I just love this Newell! With it aired down, there is still 12" clearance under it, plenty of room to crawl under it to check the brakes. ;D
Probably so. I guess I was thinking along the lines of the now defunct BLUEBIRD WANDERLODGE where at least in the early years, it was built just like a skoolie but finished inside as a motorhome.
I love the Newells nice rigs congratulation Kyle as to CrabbyMiltion the Vogue 5000 later owned by Featherlite was a fine piece of equipment for a RV it was built all in house with a frame from the ground up in Pryor OK not far from Miami Ok where Karl builds the Newell. If I ever get a shot to buy a Vogue 5000 I am going jump on it most had 500 hp Cat engines the 5000 can hold it's own in the bus world
That VOGUE is sharp. Looks like they didn't build too many though. :(
Kyle, I am glad to see you buy that. Those Senics are way cool but not everybody can live long enough to fix one up.
Newalls are said to be great rides.
Thanks everyone!
My main reason for converting my own was to get the quality I wanted for a price I could afford.
Thanks to the market wanting computer controlled 4-strokes & multiple slides, the price of MUI 2-stroke coaches with out slides has taken a big hit.
As for me, I don't want a slide & I love the sound of a 2 stroke! ;D
With the quality of build & the price of this one at less than half what I was going to spend on my own conversion, the choice was super easy.
(The fact that our daughter earned a full ride academic scholarship to her choice of college helped quite a bit too! ) 8)
Anyone interested in a 32' Airstream ? LOL ::)
Besides Blue Bird, Newell is the only other purpose built motorhome I'd consider-no matter how old. Newell's are built with commercial quality stuff. Good choice-now go enjoy yourselves! Good Luck, TomC
Are the older ones still supported by the company.?
Yes they are supported Dave sometimes when I stop to visit with Karl there is a older gentleman that has a 72 Newell model having work done.
They have a good service network for authorized service a Newell does not need to go back to factory for service like most believe, Karl the owner if necessary will fly a tech to you fwiw this Karl's 30th anniversary of owning Newell that itself speaks for Newell
