Here's someone who found a civilian battery that fits in place of his Deuce's 6TL:  http://www.steelsoldiers.com/showthread.php?73796-Replacing-6TL-6TMF-batteries-w-Civis (http://www.steelsoldiers.com/showthread.php?73796-Replacing-6TL-6TMF-batteries-w-Civis)
Too bad he doesn't say what battery it is  -  maybe an Advanced Autoparts store could tell you?   Do military batteries have different diameter terminals than regular batteries?

hows about an adapter tray ? Free to the military ( and probably you too...) from your Optima dealer... and a better battery... ;D

Optima part#2420046

NSN: 6160-01-453-0858

retails aboot $20.

(https://busconversionmagazine.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.milbatteries.com%2Fimages%2Fstories%2Faccessories%2Fp%2Fadapter_tray_big.gif&hash=1749f60b00566ec4ae177588d3010436200ce1cc)

Optima Military Battery Tray

The 6T Adapter tray raises the Optima battery to the same height as the military 6T type batteries.

It also duplicates the "foot print" of the 6T size battery to help with spacing for battery boxes and brackets.

For use with all Optima group size 34 battery models.

Dimensions: 10.5" long 10.0" wide 1.91" Height

The OPTIMA can be used successfully in place of the larger 6T (6TAGM, 6TMF, 6TL) batteries.

Someone I know used to buy all his 8Ds from the battery dealers as used take-outs from diesel-powered farm well pumps.   He said the farmers would change them out every year, so the dealers had one-year-old 8Ds still with plenty of life left in them for a small fraction of their new price.   He would get several more years of useful life out of them for his buses.   Just an idea.

I won't post the price, because prices are fluid, but I could not find the steal of a price you all got for blem Deka's (factory at east penn said none available) or I would have bought blems, found out that they are the supplier for Sears, have pretty good reviews, tired of paying a premium for lifelines (not saying they are not worth it), Atlantic Battery in Hialeah Florida gave me the best price with core exchange and hundred dollar bills, brand new date codes , have no problem making the referral, your mileage may vary, but if you happen to winter in south florida it may pay your fuel charge, mine was less than half the price of lifelines and one third of what Sears quoted (bank of 8, volume may matter) - HTH and FWIW

Niles. I got mine at the DEKA distributor at Fort Myers FL.

Another person I referred (on the BUSNUTS board) did too.
The Dealer had to request them from the manufacture sit in PA.
They request them all the time.
Sorry I did not help.
