Title: It has been a while
Post by: wal1809 on April 20, 2015, 12:38:35 PM
Well fellas how are you?  I know it has been a while but I have been mashed into the ground busy for a while now.  Life has a way of getting you that way.  I dragged the old girl out of the barn and spent some time getting her ready for this last weekend.  My wife and I went to Round Top, Texas to BBQ cater a wedding of 150 people.  Man it was nice to hear that old screamin Jimmy roar.  It was like we never left off and she went down the road like a bullet.  It really felt good.  Enough so we have decided to rebuild her inside and out.  We are going with one of two color schemes.  My choice is flat black with a fireball on the side of the bus at the front door turning into a red laser beam as it goes to the back.  The second choice is white with a modifies Silver Eagle co. logo in silver in the same are described.  The inside walls will be tongue and grooved white pine medium stained hardwood floors and black leather furniture.  The bathroom in old barnwood. The last thing is we are going to knock off the roof air and go with central ac and heat.

I know you will be apposed to black because of the heat.  I have insulated with 1.5 inches of foam board underneath.  When I tear the walls out I will do the same inside.  So black exterior walls should not matter as much as they do right now.  Anyone have an idea or a link to a central a/c and heat discussion?

I remember you well.  I wish I could get to you for a visit.  As a matter of fact I was there a few months back celebrating my Uncles Birthday.  His 16th birthday was in a troop track transport headed for the beach at Peleliu with the US Marines first Division.  He is still sharp as a tack and lives right down the road from you.  He is halfway from Hwy 95 to Muldoon on 154, north on Old Smithville Road about 2 miles.  He is without a doubt one of the greatest influences in my life.

Look at my website www.snakebreaker.com (http://www.snakebreaker.com) and look at the schedule.  I will be really close to you twice this year in august.  You should come out for shigs and gittles.

I am running a 6v92.

Why don't you like the cruise air ac units?

I agree white would be better for controlling the Texas heat ect.  But I am really digging the flat black with a sinister red eagle head ball of flames turning into a laser down the side of the bus.

Muldoon man are you off of 2237?  I used to buy snakes from a man they call Bobcat.  He lived on the north side of 2237 about 3 miles east of Cistern.

Hey Wal, you see that deal on FakeBook where the 18 year old kid in Florida caught a moccasin and then put it in a pillow case and laid it on his bed.  Somehow the snake got out and in the middle of the night, this bozo finds it on his chest, when he moved, it bit him in the face.

Rushed him to the hospital and he survived, but the snake didn't make it.

Incredible huh.

Wal ol buddy! Good to hear from you. I think of the crazy snake guy from time to time. Sorry, but I hate snakes. Only way I like them is with snake shot :) Thanks for dropping in.

And add me to the list of black not being a good idea. It sounds like a cool getup. However, we sprayed 2in of closed cell foam, and could still feel a dif with the little bit of black we had. Don't let that sway you  ;D

Never seems to amaze me ... but it is true ... what an idiot.

You can read about it here:   Snake Charmer In Florida (http://www.wfla.com/story/28859690/hillsborough-teen-bitten-in-face-by-water-moccasion-snake)

They are out and about, so head's up, especially if you have venomous neighbors.

I saw that on facebook.  I don't know how that poor dumb @$$ made it this far through life.  He is the definition of lucky, meaning lucky he has not killed himself yet.

John I know black is going to grab the heat and it is probably a bad idea.  We also thought of the other end of the spectrum and painting it brilliant white.  We are going to get shed of the three roof airs and go with basement air.  You don't reckon with enough air tonage I could overcome the heat on the black paint?

I miss being in here.  Somehow life got so busy I can't even see straight.  It is just my wife and I taking care of her elderly mother.  She had a stroke a year and a half ago and had to move in with us.  Between that, 60 hour week here at the office, duck call making and dog training, I give.  It has been said god won't give you more than a man can handle, but we are finding out what that amount is for sure.  The other day was the first time to have the old Eagle out.  Man I sure miss that feeling.  We took farm to market roads up to Round Top, Texas.  We towed a trailer BBQ pit up there.  Rolling through those hills at a cool 50 mph.  No rush, no hurry, no worries.  Just rolling along, nobody in front and nobody behind, nice.  So nice I didn't want it to end.  In spite of what Robert Earl Keen said, the road does not go on forever and the party does end.

John I think there is an end in sight for us.  I have targeted Jan 2020 as my retirement date (from this job).  Julie will continue her photography and I will continue to train dogs until I die.  I set up a map and earmarked all the big cities along a southern route from here to southern California and up to Sacramento.  A six week tour in the bus.  I am trying to set up training clinics in every city along the way.  Put that old eagle on the open highway and let her go.  Between my fall training in Texas and the spring route to Cali and catering here and there, we will be alright.  Most of all I will be as free as one can be in our nation anymore.

They are okay but don't seem to cool when it get above 95 in my coach and we all know here in Texas that's about 10 o clock in the morning around here. Not to mention have been chasing leaks on a couple. Took Clifford's advise on a old post and replaced one king valve and tightened a packing where I found a leak on the back one.  Yeah, I live right off Old Smithville Rd. North side about 4 miles on Rauder Rd. My place backs up to Buckner Creek. Will have to come see you and the pet snakes one day.
PS,
I don't like snakes.

I used to fish Buckner when I was a kid with Old Slim Mica from Flatonia, Texas.  It is a small world that is for sure.

I have the same problem but I am tracking down each air leak one little bit at a time.  When I first got my bus I would of swore it had no leaks.  My problem is I when I was looking at it was in the month of October.  The air was colder than a witch in the well.  105 on the A Texas highway and it was not so cold anymore.  Not to mention the roof airs arent that efficient anymore.  They just don't seem to be that cold.  I took Clifford's advice and started looking for air leaks  I found them all over.  I bet you I had about 15 square feet of leaks.  I also went underneath and screwed foam 2 layers of foam board to the roof of the basement and taped the egdes with that silver tape.  That made a huge difference in itself.  I am slowly getting there but rather than have three roof AC units serviced, I would rather change over to something that works a lot better and sell the roof airs to recover a little money.  At the same time we might repaint.  We are also going to take down the carpet on the ceiling and walls.  We want to do the bus in white pine tongue and groove boards running longways with the bus.  Then replace the old couches with black leather.  Between our bedroom and the bathroom, which is in the middle of the bus, there is a hallway with bunk beds.  Those bunks are coming out and that will really open up our bedroom.  We will re-do the bedroom in the same white pine.
