Title: williams air throttle
Post by: junkman42 on April 19, 2015, 09:59:22 AM
Is there anyone here that has added a williams air throttle to a 8v71?  This would be in a mc7 with a ht70 auto tranny!  Also would like to know how to interface a cruise control to air throttle.  John L

Very easy to add to an 8V71. I added a car type of cruise control to mine by having the cable pull on the accelerator pedal. I put magnets on the front brake drum so I didn't have to run the wires all the way to the rear. Worked well for 20 years and then I switched to an electronic engine which has cruise in the computer.

I don't believe you can buy a air modulator for the Allison HT70, the cable type will work with a little fabrication on the throttle, the HT70 is a little different than a HT 740 in the valve body and with the wet torque converter

I have air throttle on my 8V-71 with V730. The trans has an air operated modulator. I added a King Cruise that I mounted on the right side of the dash. I simply ran the pull cable under and looped it back up under the gas pedal. I made a metal plate with a hole bigger than the cable to allow the cable to slide when using the gas pedal with my foot. But when cruise control is on, the cable pulls down on the gas pedal. Works well-will use King cruise again-mainly because you can use it for a fast idle also. Good Luck, TomC
