Greetings,
I'm new to this forum and I apologize in advance if I am posting in the wrong board. If all goes well, I will hope hopefully be a frequent poster. I have my eye on an American Eagle bus but the current owner has very little information about the vehicle. It's VIN is 9097. My biggest concern with the vehicle, is whether or not it is geared for the highway. It only has a single axle in the back, instead of two. That may have nothing to do with anything. Mechanically, it runs and is drivable. It's speedometer and fuel gauge does not work. I have been trying to look into the parts, but there's confusion over what year the vehicle is. Any help you all can give to identifying the year, the engine, the transmission and any other details you may know about this model.
Thanks!
9097 was a 1973 -05 Eagle a Tamimi Tours of Florida bus it should have had a bogie axle with a 8v71 and 4 speed manual with 3:73 gearing if we are talking about a Eagle bus. you have a photo ?
Wonder if this could be a Buffalo disguised as an Eagle?? Saw one of these in Asheville N C some years back.It was a grey one with a single axle.Looked just like an Eagle until you really got to looking.
Hi All, american eagle, was and is a motorhome, the company that builds it, is now called allied recreation group inc. Fleetwood, as we used to know it , its a big and expensive high end coach, could look like a bus, mpolsfu, do you think it's a silver eagle? Lvmci...

Here is a pic
That is diffidently a Eagle looks to be modified it has the 05 windshields and that is a tall roof raise for a Eagle you don't see many with that tall of a raise, looks to be shorten is it 35 ft or 37 ft. so the serial number will fit ? what engine and tyranny
I wouldn't worry to much about the gearing if it has the 4 speed manual they will cruise around 70 with no problems and it is probably going to be a 3:73 rear gear.is that bus in FL
Thanks! It was originally in FL. It has an automatic transmission, not sure if it's Allison or not. They have driven it on the highway before. I just want to make sure it has enough power to get through the mountains.
What is the primary difference between buses that have one rear axle and two? Is it just a matter of carrying more weight?
40 and 45 foot buses have tags wheels, not axles actually. Each tag wheel is independent from the other. The biggest function is to carry weight. They also have brakes that help slow down the extra heavy bus.
JC
Also helps a lot with handling IE going in a strait line!!!
That is one good lookin Eagle .Being the armature sleuth that I am,since there are no bin doors in front of the wheels'I would say that the tag was removed (Most of the older Eagles had the tag's in
front of the drive wheels.I would say that this is probably a 40 ft coach! Let me know if I am correct.!!
I've seen the single axle Eagles before. There is one for sale on bargainbusnews. http://www.bargainbusnews.com/Buses/5527-1991EagleEagle/5527-1991EagleEagle-1.jpg (http://www.bargainbusnews.com/Buses/5527-1991EagleEagle/5527-1991EagleEagle-1.jpg)
Ken
Don Smith has a nice single axle Eagle
I'm with Bigred, Bogey was removed - FWIW
Awesome information guys! So the consensus in that it would make a good base for a RV restoration and fine for highway driving cross country?
Thanks!
I don't know how much you gave for this bus ,but I can tell you someone has spent a mint on this already .I would definitely put this unit on the road.Doesn't look like it will take much .I have a Prevost myself ,but I'm a closet Eagle man. There is just something about an Eagle!! Just watch out for low over passes and be sure you have a foot ball field to turn it in.lol!!!
When you need parts remember it is a 1973 05 Eagle, you better check the suspension with the bogies removed the torques wear faster, the 2 axle from Eagles have a larger torque tube than the one with the bogies fwiw
Awesome! Thanks! So Bigred or Luvrbus, would there be much reason to add the Tag wheel and Bogie back in? Or not necessary?
To much trouble now to add it back just go with what you have I personally like the bogie setup any bus can have a tag axle lol only real buses have a bogie ::)
Yep !! Trying to re install the bogie's would be a very expensive proposition by the time you got all the body work and the boogie's installed, you would probably wind up paying darn near what you paid for the bus.Like Luvrbus,I like the bogie's or tag's but not enough to go trying to re install them.Do you know who the converter was on this bus? Just curious because it look's professional .Heck,I'll bet they could have bought a bus conversion for a lot less money than they paid for the conversion .If in doubt ,pile your gear on the bus and head for a set of scales.I think you will find that six wheels is plenty for the weight you will be carrying.
Ok. I got it! Thanks
Welcome to the bus forum! I am not an Eagle owner but there are many of them here. They should be able to answer anything you need. What area are you in? You mentioned wanting to travel in the mountains but did not say which mountains. My bus has an 8-71 and it will get around the Smokey Mountains but do not get in a hurry.
So did you buy that gorgeous Eagle???
