If you wanted to get away from the cold for a month or two, where would you go?

Greeeeen acres is the place to be.... ;D
Simple-if you're on the east coast-Florida. If you're on the west coast, southern Nevada, southern Arizona, southern California. Today is going to be in the mid 70's here in L.A. Good luck, TomC
Indoors.
At Clifford's house ...
LOL, I like that last one
Not quite the help I was hoping for, but it is what it is.
Maybe everyone who goes south for the winter and has a good spot, wants to keep it private. I guess I can understand that. Thanks anyway.

Hiya Kev. Welcome to the board.
I don't think folks realized that you wanted specifics.
Me personally? Somewhere with plenty of snow and mountains. Preferably Colorado. ;D
Frostproof, Fl quiet area -1 hr from everything -Disney -the beach -what ever you want
Florida- Zephyr Hills. Quite popular. Also have heard of nice area in Alabama on the Gulf of Mexico. Some places in Az., but don't remember location. Farr or Pharr Texas, but don't know how it is down there these days. Father used to winter over at those areas every year. Last year's were in Fla. due to driving times.
The Texas coast and San Antonio are nice this time of the year and prices are good in Texas not to mention the sea food and BBQ ;D plus the Mexican food is not to shabby either
Muldoonman--Your family must be half the population, and the Prevost half the real estate ;D
Gary, Very nice, but the drive would be "difficult ::)
John316, most of us want to escape that 4 letter "S" word :D
For me --I will head somewhere warm without a "Honey-Do List" (OOPs I forgot --Love the Woman--Hate the List!!!) ;)

We like Rocky Point Mexico for a spell. Longer stays include a visa. Will not always be shorts weather but there will always be the beach.

You pretty well have to figure out for yourself where is best for you. Our experience has been that if we want guaranteed shorts and sandals weather then we need to go to southern Florida or into Mexico at least as far as Mazatlan. Individual years are different - sometimes you can have a great winter in Yuma or Corpus Christi but there's no substitute for latitude.
Depending on what you like Scottsdale AZ has a lot to offer and the weather will be perfect you could camp at the county park at Fountain Hills only 8 miles from Scottsdale or the RV Ranch in downtown Scottsdale but it is a little pricey till May
Frostproof isn't frostproof! We were farther south at Okeechobee last winter and had frost a couple of days.
We love the RGV in Texas. Can't get enuf of all the fresh fruit.

The drive wasn't too bad; 1/2 hour drive to the Amtrak Pacific Surfliner, then the Surfliner to San Diego. 6-1/2 flight over and 5-1/2 hours back. Love it here.
In the rig we like to spend our winter tour in S/W Arizona. Mostly in the BLM, dry camping and playing our music and visiting all our snowbird friends.
GaryD
Like Clifford said, Fountain Hills is a great winter spot. We spend our winters at McDowell Mtn reg. park. One tip== Make reservations 6 months ahead during busy season
Love that park
I think I would go to the RGV near the southern border to start, in January/February, then start to work back east. The entire northern coast of the Gulf can get freezing temps until about the end of February, so I would wait, hit places like Galveston, New Orleans in March, then up the east coast back to home in April. Never going to happen, but that's what I would probably do.

Hey Brian. Why won't it happen? I am way younger then you. However, I have decided that it is better to do things now, then not. Already this year, I booked one "never going to happen trip" and probably another two.
Aren't you retired? If so, you have it all good ;D
hi Kev, I live in LV and work in LA, good spots.in both places to winter there, less expensive in LV, sometimes it feels like winter for a few days, in LV, weather great in LA, Valencia travel village and East Shore in Pomona area are my choices, lvmci...

Yes, retired but living on savings, not a pension, so have to plan the expenditures. I think that if I am honest with myself I have other things I'd rather do than live in a bus for 6 months chasing the sun, although after this winter my wife may inform me that my priorities have changed... I am so totally with you on the do it now, drink the good wine first, don't put it all off. Learned only this morning that the husband of a friend of my wife's has "aggressive stage four brain cancer", which sounds completely bad to me.
Brian
When we go south we feel like we have put ourselves on a solar charger. Also have found that what ever hobby you have follows the people to the south. Big tractor shows like Florida flywheelers. Sprint car racing--totally on other side quilting and other specialties . So you get a collection of participants from all over not just local. We do central Florida because it's close and we identify with what's going on. Cost for lux site with utilities 525$ a month. Bob

Heck I live 10 miles West of The Big City of Muldoon on 100 acres. . Really out in the sticks. Can't even see the city lights. Really they don't city lights or even a stop light or any kind of store. They even took out the Post Office for 10 or so families. Can you say Country. Best place to Winter,,I would say any place with native Palm Trees. Love Rockport. 100 miles or so, south of me. Gulf Coast.
Muldoonman,
I did the google earth thing---You are really out there! ;D
I will probably be wintering in FL in a few years vs TX, as; #1 wife likes the beach, #2 Kids would never visit us in TX(too far)
Steve
Thanks for the ideas. I was planning a trip to check out a few places and now I have some places in mind. Not quite ready to retire yet but thinking better now than later. The Texas coast sounds like my cup of tea, or central Florida. I have a friend with land there I might have to check out. Again, thanks for the replies.
Kevin
We have friends from Mossinnee WI that winter with us. They are in Naples for March. The friends you make on the road will be like a 2nd family.
For us in the high desert, it really does not get much better than home, and I could see this as a good area for the snowbirds, as they are called. However, the Palm Springs and all the adjacent cities (Palm Desert, Rancho Mirage, Cathedral City, etc.) in the low desert nearby would be an excellent choice. There are lots of people there that claim they do not own a pair of long pants. Aside from the good temps, there is very little humidity, which is a big plus for me. The area has lots of activity, stores, a good airport, and great medical facilities.
