Title: Temp Probe

I've ordered two of these to control some fans in my bay (long story - doesn't matter).  However, the temperature probe is only 6' long and I'd really like to install the controller with all my other electronics.  The probe is a 6' wire that looks like a simple 18ga twin wire (almost like speaker wire).

Can I extend the wires?  Can I simply solider/splice another 6' - 10' of wire on and still get good results?
I know it must be designed with some kind of resistance measurement or something.  This unit doesn't have to be absolutely accurate, even within 5 degrees is fine with me.

I would hook it up as is and check it against a known temperature and add the wire and recheck it. If it's different, you have a correction factor.

Jim Shepherd would likely know.  I don't know how much time he spends here now but you could send him a PM.  I think this is  (http://firedetectionguy.com/) his current website and it has contact information on it. Or PM me & I can give you his cell number.
