Planning on stopping at the Grand

Any one know of a good campground to stay at near the Grand Canyon.
Thanks

Hi John, williams, az there are a few rv parks, the main street is old route 66. Exit east of williams is a nice KOA, but you have to stop at the pine tree country restaurant,  the best pie anywhere! Lvmci...

There's a real nice RV park at the Grand Canyon RR train station in Williams.  If you stay you get a discount on the train trip to the South Rim.  I highly recommend it, it's a great relaxing train ride in vintage cars.  Trying to stay up at Grand Canyon is a rip off.

You can stay at the Grand Canyon for free. (or you could 10 years ago, I did. on the advice of a park bus driver and consent of a Ranger)

Drive to the Back Country Registration office, There is a huge parking lot and a restaurant nearby, the park bus line stops there also.

I stayed in my Eagle, for 12 days.

We stayed there also Boomer, nice park.  Didn't care for all the train-whistles tho.  But after awhile, you kind of get used to them.  We were there for a week, right when they have their local rodeo as it turns out.

Same old garbage out by the Interstate, fast food.  But downtown like lvmci was saying has some of the old style Cafe's like they had in the past, quaint, the Route 66 ambiance, decent food and nice locals.

Has anyone noticed that RV Parks close to an Interstate almost always are close to the rail line?

I love Williams. One of my favorite 66 towns. Just wish I lived closer. I dig all the cool old signs, and Rod's steakhouse too.

There is this new thing on the East side of Williams, close to the Grand Canyon junction it is called Bear Arama or something like that.  It is a bear sanctuary really kind of interesting, modest entry fee.  Last time I was there (canyon) helicopter rides were $100 per person, entry fee's $25 but it has been awhile.

All the campgrounds are close to the tracks usually, you are right.  BNSF has part of their system "tripled tracked" so does the UP, hard to avoid them.  The absolute worst one I can remember is the Flyin' Hooker in Abilene, Texas.  It had slow trucks coming down the ramp (breaks squealing to beat the band) a railroad close by, Interstate and I said to the wife ... "Well the only thing missing is a ___ airplane."

Yup, you guessed it, turns out they have an AF Base close by, C-5A's in the middle of the night.

Watch those right-handers.

Not much you can do about the train noise in Williams lol I read where the Santa Fe owns the water in Williams and has since the 1800's The KOA in that area like most everywhere in the area haul water in because Williams is the only place with water

John,
My wife and I have done the stay as Boomer suggested. We really had a wonderful time. My wife's favorite part was being "held up" by the train robbers. I think your boy's will find Williams a fun stopping off place.

Looking forward to seeing you in Pahrump.
