Just a question to start,my old book is complete up to revision/supplement (add on) number 47, does anyone have more recent ones than I have ?
There are about 300 pages to the book as I have it...
Would anyone here want to have a digital copy ?
Would you be willing to help offset the cost of such a thing ?
With so much of these documents being lost over time maybe now is a good time to preserve them.
So what are your thoughts ? :)
Donald,I have the last printing of the manual 97-98 if you go forward

i will check the copy date on mine, i believe i got it with th updates in the late 90's also. got my first one from evans engine in anchorage in the late 70's.
does yours have the page where you add a check mark for the up dates ?
If I can find a good deal on one that I can unbind, I can scan it at work.
No mine is the last printing all revisions are there 417 pages has 7 fold outs 3 on the 40, 50 and 60 series plus the Phaser series and the 30G series no fold out on the 55 series
Are there any part numbers or an ISBN number on the book? If so can you post them?

Mine is only 2 stroke stuff....IIRC...
The book is/was never for sale that i am aware.... in the old days it was gifted to Guild members by dealers/employers and then to high volume purchasers of DD engines and powered equipment.
mung... heres one with 45 supplements you can buy.... http://www.ebay.com/itm/EXCLLNT-Detroit-Diesel-Specifications-FIELD-SERVICE-DATA-Book-Shop-Manual-6SE266-/191481307618 (http://www.ebay.com/itm/EXCLLNT-Detroit-Diesel-Specifications-FIELD-SERVICE-DATA-Book-Shop-Manual-6SE266-/191481307618)
Donald -
I'd be interested.
I also have a high quality scanner, if needed.
FWIW & HTH. . .
;)
I saw an older version with a 6SE266 part number on it. Also if anyone has the number for the military version, I might be able to get that one.
I would be interested too.

I quess two books or a combination of 2 stroke and 4 stroke might be a better way to go.... the one for sale on ebay the guy wants 300$...
of course I would never sell mine, but am will ing to help out the scanner is not the problem (for me).. the converting it to pdf is the part that I do not have the software to produce, but FedEx office does.. the cost to convert it is about $ 80.00... so I thought that others would be interested, it's early yet, let's see if anyone else wants one.
The more pages the cheaper it is up to a point...the price breaks are every 50 pages approximately.
heres another on ebay (greasy) for 240$.... :-[
I have been offered 600$ for mine from WW Williams never even crossed my mind to sell it at any price
It would kill me to have to unbind a $300 book to scan it. Our scanners here convert to PDF on the fly so that is nice.
They are a 3 ring snap note book no need to destroy it by unbinding the book

mung ... it's a ring binder/bound...
Clifford I have been offered cash for mine too... not for sale, and i hardly use it anymore...BUT when you need it nothing else will do :)
That makes it better. A lot of the ones I saw on eBay were paperback bound.
I have the protective hard case the manual slides into you don't see many of those, mine was given to me by Davenport in 1999 still looks new lol always kept in the house not it the shop I would faint if someone got grease on it ;D

iirc.... 6SE266... is the last edition, after which supplements were still being added up until 1996, i do not know the final supplement #.... what i do know is i'll never need the 4 stroke data....I would go with Caterpillar were I in the 4 stroke mood ... :)
i still have a few of these around too ....tho this one is not a picture of mine ... :o

you are probably right... i am in the bus and my book is in the house... ???
Edit: they are all 6SE266.... mine is 1987... :o with a tiny amount of Series 60 reference, and minimal DDEC and DDECII
PS. mung i have never seen one that was not in a ring binder.
1966 military version is 18SE51 and not in a binder.
While searching for the military version I found this. It is kind of interesting.

The job lists in that document are pretty cool as is the training section. I would love to get my hands on a copy of the slides they used.
I have one of these original Field Data manuals too.
If I can be of help, let me know.
oops...
so i was able to finally find the time to scan my Field Service Data Handbook.
I did a tiny bit of editing, as in changed the page color to a grey scale..because it was too bright and aged/yellowed as it was...
I had to do each page separately and a few pages are out of order...I left those as is.
So...would anyone be interested in a donation type offer ?
the scanner cost a few bucks.
here is a page.
Using the Windows 10 photo viewer, it worked best to center each page vs. orienting like a "copier" because enlarging them offset to "off view" if that makes any sense... a guru I am not.
Any interest ?
ps. before you decide..i would download the picture and see if it is compatible to your viewer and satisfactory in any other regards...

I don't know... I have two of the original small field service binders ending in the eighties. When I bought them I was promised lifetime updates mailed to my house. That didn't last long. After a couple of years I remembered to ask the DDA parts guide what happened to my updates, and I was handed a 1/4" thick pile up of updates. That was okay, but in order to get the updates to fit they wanted me to throw out a bunch of old stuff that I wanted to keep. So the updates are on the side. I lost interest after DDA broke their promise on sending me lifetime updates.

I still receive update releases for my 92 series manual, but none for the 71 series in years
