Disconnect the linkage on the top of the transmission, then have a helper try to move the shift lever through all positions.

If the linkage moves, the transmission is probably hung up between gears.  May have to take the top off the gearbox to fix.

If the linkage doesn't move, check the bell crank on the bulkhead for binding.

Very rare that there's a problem up front under the shift tower.

FWIW & HTH. . .

;)

PS: What's the VIN on your coach?  PD4106-XXXX?

Is it a Spicer 4 like in a 4104?

When that happens on my 4104 I have my wife hold in the clutch, then I go back and match up the two levers coming directly from the trans.

That puts it back in N and away we go!

I find that this only happens when I forget to fully depress the clutch pedal.

If this doesn't work you may have a failed shift linkage. I had to completely rebuild mine, there were many completely worn out bushings and clevis pins plus the shaft clamp just under the driver's seat was sloppy.

There are many moving parts in that linkage and a little slop in each adds up to a bunch at the trans.

The Al arms on the firewall bellcrank are especially susceptible to wear once the bushings are worn through. You get to it via the rear top engine access cover. Hopefully it isn't covered up by bedroom stuff.

Exactly my thoughts too.  That was why I asked if it was the Spicer 4. I have had that happen on mine and also had to change out some of my clevis pins.

Allison automatics don't have any clutch, gear crashing, backing up, problems. Drive an automatic bus and you'll never go back to a manual. I drove 13spd on my truck for 1.3 million miles. If you had maybe at least a 10spd, maybe different. Good Luck, TomC

Thank you to all of you for your responses I greased joints on the firewall in the back, grease came out like it should but the pin was dry. With a friends help we sprayed "Blaster" on the joint while moving shifter back forth and walla it started moving much easier. Now we can move forwad.

Do you have any slop in the linkages?

The 4104 has a long tube (~30") with a zerk fitting on the bottom end which goes up to the bellcrank. Unfortunately this tube fills with hardened grease and is unusable. Don't know if the 06 has this.

I greased all mine by hand before assembly.
