Post by: Dietrichfarms on January 13, 2015, 07:04:52 PM
Need to replace old bendix speed control ( non functional) on my 78 MCI cruisader. Any suggestions?

King cruise control has been used by some with good results. They are designed for heavy duty applications. They are expensive though and only available in 12volt, I believe. They are fairly pricey though.

Rostra cruise controls work well also; there was a member on other board that used to sell them.

Since I already have a King unit to be installed, I plan to use it. Otherwise I'd use the Rostra unit.

King is the way to go with the fast idle option about 500 bucks most of the time

Just piling on in favour of King Cruise.  I hate running without cruise so that was about my first upgrade when we bought the bus.  I found a reconditioned unit on ebay.  It was pretty simple to install - as I recall there was just one wire to run from the engine to the dash.  I was able to tap into the existing speedo signal and I had to fabricate a bracket to mount the governor control.

Since I have an air throttle with air contolled automatic transmission throttle sensor, I made a metal plate extension to the end of my gas pedal. I have the King Cruise mounted under the dash on the right side with the pull cable looped underneath coming up at the gas pedal. It pulls down on the gas pedal. Under 40mph, it doesn't work, but at cruise 58mph or so, it works quite well. And as stated, you can use it as a fast idle. I'll install one on my truck also. Good Luck, TomC

I mounted my king the same as Tom, less wiring and cleaner. I took out an air operated unit that may or may not work if anyone is interested in it.
