Title: Detroit mechanic Bakersfield CA
Post by: viking1 on January 11, 2015, 07:58:32 PM
There is a very knowlable Detroit mechanic in Bakersfield, who is also a bus nut. I've talked to him several times a few years ago but have misplaced his contact info and I can't remember his name. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

You are thinking of Don Fairchild.  However, when I spoke to him a couple of weeks ago he was working in Wyoming.

You can also try Valley Detroit Diesel or Delaney and Alf, both in Bakersfield.  But ... I am not sure they are still in business or not.  Both good outfits.  I think, (kinda) Don works for one of them.  Not sure which.  Hope this helps.  HB of CJ (old coot)

Just talked to Don Fairchild, and yes he is in fact in Casper, Wyoming working with Allison overhauling transmissions. His wife is still in Bakersfield. You go where the work is. Good Luck, TomC

Cliff does Don work of 60 series? And does he work on the side? I have one circuit in my jakes that acts up when I tow the jeep. I wouldn't mind running over to Casper in the spring if he is available.

Delaney and Ahlf.  Not Alf.  Both Valley Detroit Diesel and Delaney are very good people.  Years ago they let us dig through their bone pile free looking for good used free parts to build up cheap good used 353N and 453N Detroits we put into Ford 3/4 and 1 ton Pickups and Flatbeds.  One had a Jake Brake which was very fun.  Long ago and far away.  Anyhow, Bakersfield was my old home town.  Lived there over 22 years, for what that is worth.  HB of CJ (old coot) :)
