Title: Fuse size 12V ON vANNER
Post by: Dave5Cs on January 10, 2015, 09:53:33 AM
FUSE SIZE-12volt post
Almost done hooking up my inverter 24volt to 4, 6 volt US Batteries in series , that being done now I have to wire up the Vanner to the 2 series wired 6v batteries. There is a wire on the 24 volt but nothing on the 12 volt, ground is wired to the chassis.
I need to know on my 60-20A Vanner how big a fuse do I put in the line from the batteries to the 12 volt post. In the book it shows one but just says F-1 no size. Is it a 20 amp fuse or?

What size wire did you use for the 12V connection?  You uses fuses to protect wires, so the size of the wire is the starting point for selecting the fuse.  I would have used 10 gauge wire personally, and I would therefore use a 30 amp fuse.  If you used 12 gauge use a 20 amp fuse, 14 gauge use a 15 amp fuse and less than 14 gauge I would rewire it.  The maximum output on the 12v stud is 20 amps.  Going a bit over the anticipated maximum current, in this case 10 gauge wire with a 30 amp fuse, is good practice.  Although I didn't use a fuse, my Vanner has a circuit breaker.

Size 1 wire  battery cable size because i had it left over after moving the batteries closer and to the other side driver where you have yours. So the cable to the vanner from the two 6v in the 4- 6 v batteries bank is about 12 feet to the other side so thought cable should be larger than 10? No

Doesn't Vanner recommend a particular wire size?  If the manual does not show it, I would call them.
