Post by: Dietrichfarms on January 05, 2015, 04:32:13 PM
Anyone have recommendations  for air ride drivers seat for my 78 mci cruisader. Looking to replace the original seat. Also source for cruise control.

Air ride seats in an air ride coach are a little redundant, but not unheard of.

They are a PITA if the coach is a stick shift, however.

Isringhausen (http://www.isriusa.com/en/home.html (http://www.isriusa.com/en/home.html)) and USSC (http://www.usscgroup.com/division/ussc-group-operator-seating/ (http://www.usscgroup.com/division/ussc-group-operator-seating/)) are two of the major players in the bus industry seating market.  Not cheap, but designed for long hours behind the wheel w/ minimum fatigue.

Some folk have used air ride seats out of a wrecked 18-wheeler, Bostrom being a common player in that market.

If/when adjusted properly, and if you've got a high-backed National or American OEM seat in your MCI, they're actually quite comfortable.  But you have to adjust them and your overall seating position properly.

As for cruise controls, King and Rostra are two that are out there.

FWIW & HTH. . .

I bought an air ride Bostrom from my local truck parts dealer, wanting a quality seat and not wanting used.  The only take-outs I could find were "delivery seats", pretty much junk.  I did not use the air ride base, I just put it on the stock pedestal, so I have an air ride base taking up space since I haven't figured out something to do with it yet.

Note that if you are replacing the stock low back chair and you have the stock surround and bar around the back of the driver's area, the bar may need to be modified to get the chair adjusted where you want it.

Recaro is the seat of choice here in Big Transit.

In checking the wrecking yard, there can be gems lurking on the passenger side of the truck. Some will have a basically unused matching chair to the beat up one on the left side.

Happy coaching!

National seating seat air ride cloth, you don't stick to it. It rides very nice. Also have 2 Bostrum low rider air ride seats on swivels and pedestals. Also nice and comfy.

I have a National low back air ride seat in my transit-the original seat. I usually drive with the air deflated down on the bumper. The only time I put air in the seat is to pump it all the way to the top if the sun is in my eyes. You don't need an air ride seat on an air ride bus. Good Luck, TomC

I wouldnt be without my air ride seat, when I had the seat reupholstered I installed the controll valve in the arm rest so it is easy to adjust, I also added remote mirrors, I am able to adjust the mirrors to match the seat height, >>>> John.
