Title: Good mechanic/shop in central Texas
Post by: Dietrichfarms on December 16, 2014, 03:13:22 PM
I live in Blanket, Texas. Basically dead center of the state. My 78 mci 8v71 does not come up against  govenor, I have let it get to 27, 28 hundred. We have no serious mechanics in town so looking for any recommendations. Thanks

Thanks, yes a couple of times wasn't watching close enough and let rpms run up, bus runs really great at 1850-1900 rpms and that's right at 63 mph. Just want to have it looked at, PO swore he was told to run it at 2800. Good thing he only drove it 400 total miles! Not what I read on a 8v71.

Blanket, is that east of  Brownwood? I think you have oilfield west of you and some of the well service companies still have some 2 stroke detroits a running in there puling units. Might give some a call and see. 2800 rpms is a spinning or would be for my 8v92. Probably could run a hundred easy in my Prevost.

I seriously doubt that you could get 2800 rpm ought of a natural 71 series but if you could it would might last about an hour and a half ... 2350 ok but it would be seriously detrimental in the life of your motor ....
