Will this work in the 6v92?
Highly recommend stay with the normal Green antifreeze, and steer clear of the Dex Cool, seems to be problems trying to use the Dex Cool have heard many horror stories, DRC still recommends the Green stuff, the last I am aware.

Damn and I can get six gallons of it for free. Could I use it till spring, and then put the correct kind in?
Scott what color is in there now the green, orange, pink/purple/red. No matter you shouldnt mix the green with the oranges and reds it makes a mud color and just uncool.
Not me, it is reported to turn to sludge blcking radiator etc, I would not touch it.
Talk to local mechanics, NAPA shop what their experience has been.

It is a mud color now, so the previous owner must have mixed it. I am putting in a block heater and will need to put new antifreeze in, so I was going to drain it all out. How many gallons total capacity does the 6v92 hold? Where do I drain the entire system at?
Ok, please tell me the cheapest antifreeze I can use in it so that I can start it and move it a few feet to get the city off my @$#, and then in the spring I can drain it and put the correct kind in. Will it harm it to just sit for a few months in it? My money is very tight and I just need a temporary fix till spring when my money will be flowing again.
re-use what you take out....that's the cheapest your going to find. been done before and will be done again...

What I did to reuse coolant was to filter it through a paint strainer before I put it back in. If you are working outdoors it is almost impossible not to get dirt into the coolant when you drain it.
As mentioned, you can strain and reuse what you are taking out. You can test it to make sure it will freeze protect for your climate. You can even additives to reinforce the anti corrosion package.
If you drain into a wide half barrel .... We always let it settle and lay an oil absorbent pad on the surface to collect any oil that might be in the antifreeze then pump it back in thru a coolant filter with a teel/Dayton/Little Giant impeller pump ....
6 gal us not going to do much good the 6v92 is gals then you have the radiator and hoses with the heaters rule of thumb for me is take the engine coolant capacity multiple x 4 in your case it would be 6x4 =24 gals that gets you close.
Have you tried buying recycled antifreeze at a radiator shop all they do is filter and add chemical and it sell for 5 bucks a gal here BYB it comes in designer colors and the green and is good for about a year
If yours is brown there is not much left I doubt you can do anything with it except dump it
If its free and you know the color in there is from a previous mixup, then by all means put it in and move the vehicle if its going to be awhile. But it needs to be replaced properly by being drained sent to recycler and then the system flushed with h20 and refilled with a standard diesel type antifreeze.
Here they only ask that it be moved if there is not a present license on it. I undertsand many locals have so many different rules and even some within as the street "club/association".
Good luck there
Put the block heater on and when I did the antifreeze was green not brown? Not sure why the antifreeze in radiator looked brown? I will strain what I caught and add some other green car antifreeze I have for the winter. My rear tire is half a tire onto the grass and my city says I have to move it so the whole tire is on the driveway, and wouldn't you know they would wait until it isn't running >:(
Take the out side dual off!, they obviously like running down your street.
Once they get a trail there like an ole dog same o same o, give them a new trick or bone :)
Do what brmax said.. If they complain about the tire being off, get one bag of Quikrete and make a driveway extension so that you can put the tire back on. :) I love messing with people.
I already am planning on putting in 20 new flower planters (old toilets) this spring in my front yard ;D
Do not install dex-cool where green is recommended. It is acidic to the solder used to build radiators and heater cores and can and does cause massive leaks.

Scott- Curious minds want to know how the move went. You're running out of time to get the flower boxes set up and driveway extension poured! -kidding- I hope everything went well, despite the hiccups.
QuoteWell actually I have until Friday
Got the bus moved today. I did have to remove the 2 fuel filters and fill them a total of 4 times to get it moved :-[
I'd get rid of them filters and hook them direct to some tap handles,#1 swill of course.
Glad to hear all the inspectors will just have to cruise on by with a sore neck.
good day there
Detroit recommends the use of Fleet Guard antifreeze. It will cut down on the sillaca dropout that plugs up the bottom of radiators.
Color is purple.
Ken
Oh almost forgot. NAPA carries an equivelent Fleet Charge antifreeze. Meets the Detroit Diesel requirements. You can get it in a 50/50 mix if you so need it.

Purple antifreeze. ...now we're talking!
;)
Mark
Designer colors neat huh mix them together and you even have more colors to be different that is, it all boils down to 2 different based antifreeze
When I went to Fleet Guard recently the coolant temp dropped 10 degrees - FWIW
