Dave just come full of water, Rice Ranch had some water,  there are honey wagons, water wagons if you don't want to move. And there are many fill & dump places in Qz. like the Pit stop on 95 when you come in from Parker. Bruce

The GM people are a out going bunch the Eagle people are a little more on the shy side except for a few I hope the FLX people are there that is a good group

Hi Dave, I did the I-5 in Oct, from Washington, turned down the US99, construction going on, not bad, then to the CA58 thru Bakersfield and Barstow, you could take the I-40 then to AZ95 (better than CA95/US95) to the corner of
I-10/AZ95, tom..

AZ 95 off I 40 you go through Lake Havasu nice drive with scenery but the stop lights will drive you nuts CA 95 since the new pavement is not bad except nothing there till you reach Parker I mean 70 miles of nothing with the exception of the fruit fly check point at Vidal

Tom, we just came down 95 from Boulder City in early Oct. and it was fine. They have also repaved I-40 into Needles toward the Az. border.....that stretch was getting pretty rough a few years ago. We come thru Lk. Havasu each time we come that way. I worked on the hiway widening project there in 03 so Havasu is kinda like a 2nd home to me. Hit most of the lights green this time. ;D

Hi Dave, http://www.quartzsitervshow.com/rv/rv-general-info/ (http://www.quartzsitervshow.com/rv/rv-general-info/) ,  that's  just the RV show dates, the big tents, open air swap meets and all the stuff for RVs. The other shows before and after are in the same tent area, think conventions swapping out from one show to the next, in the same convention hall. Rice Ranch has a RV park across from the boondock area and I think 3 of the 4 corners of AZ95 and I-10 have rv parks, but true boondocking it is, this area we're  talking about, it's  just dirt. If those are the GM meeting dates, they coincide with the RV show, please say longer, I'm working the 16th, hoping to leave LV 17th, hopefully there'll be a spot near you guys, tom, lvmci...

As mentioned earlier, I am thinking about driving over for a day trip to meet some of the names here on the board.  I understand that the GM rally is from the 15th to the 18th, and the RV show is after that.  However, I wanted to try to find out when the majority of the guys here plan to be in Quartsite so that I will not miss meeting them.  What dates do you plan to be there?

Hi Dave, happy new year to you and all the busnuts on the board. I hoping  we'll  have it in, when the brakes had to be replaced, couldnt afford the great generator Gary wanted to sell me, so bought a diesel, much lower KW, from craigslist, bus will be kinda made up just to go temporary, right now, plumbing, 12volt, fridge heat propane for it hopefully,  and generator for 120AC hopefully. Hope it will all come together for quartzsite, boy do I need a vacation, getting to close to retirement, the short timer effect, tom...

Dave -

After 7500 miles in my 5C since Nov 17, going over the Rockies, Tehachapis, Siskiyous and Cascades, a grade is a grade is a grade.  If it's 6%, you're going to be doing 30 mph.  So that becomes a moot point.

It's roughly 25 miles further to take 58/40/95, but you don't have to deal with the heavier traffic on the other route.  Depending on the time of day on the S side of the Grapevine, that route could be 30+ minutes faster, or several hours longer.  Crapshoot.

Altho Google Maps says the 99/210/10 route is 471 miles and about 7 hours, that's auto travel times.  In the Tortoise it translates to 9.5 hours, thus plan accordingly.  (I've averaged 53 mph over the above 7500 miles, so I just use 50 mph for planning purposes - which, BTW, Greyhound also uses when putting together their line-haul schedules.)

There may be a change in my schedule, and I won't be able to leave until the 15th, but it's not set in stone yet.

I still have a couple issues to be worked out regarding house systems, too.

FWIW & HTH. . .

;)

Headed out tomorrow morning! Been working feverishly this last week to get the bus ready for it: new axle seals all around, new slack adjusters at the back, replaced the power steering pump that was leaking with one Clifford gave me last spring. That took half a day because I had to swap some plumbing from one to another, and make some gaskets, etc. And getting it to fit into the fiber gear in the little bell housing is awkward.

We'll go to Blackie, Alberta at the farm first for a couple of day, then leave there Monday morning and go South. First night in Butte, MT. Should be in Quartzsite on Thursday or so.

It is full blown winter here, lots of snow, cold in Alberta. Fun... I bought the bus some jewelry for Christmas: a set of tire chains. I gave my 22.5 ones to a friend, this bus is 24.5 wheels. Chains are mandatory in BC and many of the states. I will use them just to get out of our place here.

A little apprehensive... But hey, I used to drive bus in winter all the time. I just hate to get mine dirty on the winter roads, I hope I don't get a chip in the windshield.

Looking forward to the rally, seeing old friends and meeting new ones.

I am finally installing our inverter this week. almost done with it. Just have to run some wire to the Vanner for 12 volt and program the controls. Then I have to figure out where to put all the stuff I had to take out to put it in!.....Will be leaving Tuesday 99, 58, 40, CA 95, 62, AZ 95 will be towing White Chevy S-10.

I found a Pintal hook bolt on type I don't need. If anyone needs it I will have it with me you can have it. In person only very heavy.

Post by: lostagain on January 09, 2015, 11:42:02 AM
Thanks Clifford, somebody at Q will want them. Both my bus and dump truck have 24.5 wheels, so I don't need them at the moment.

Meanwhile this morning, I air up the bus with shop air, and find a big leak at the auxiliary diaphragm of one of the DD3s that I just overhauled? It held air when I tested it a few days ago... Luckily, I was able to remove the clamp ring and plate off from under the bus. The diaphragm is fine. It just wasn't sealing good enough. After lunch, I will reassemble it with grease and hopefully it seals better.

Instead of grease use Dow Corning #4, or DC4 as it is known in the trades, it will nurish and extend the life of the diaphragm and make a good seal.>>>Dan

hi All, been working feverishly to get the Italian Greyhound II in some kind of working order for Q. Gary Bennett of B&B instructs me on how to build the interior wood work, while cutting and fitting it for me, Ricardo also from the shop is gonna finish formica counter tops. Van is doing some mighty fine electrical wiring and fitting of my noise maker, now I have to go back to work finishing up the consumer electronics show to make some money, Tami came buy to bring lunch, saw the wood work in the kitchen and almost came to tears of joy, hugging Gary. Thanks to Gary, Van and Clifford for such  gracious and kindness in sharing your knowledge and abilities with this poor las vegas kid, tom, lvmci...

Tom your are in good hands.

I used the good waterproof grease for boats.  Just saw your posts just now Clifford and Dan, too late, thanks anyway. It took me 3 hrs to get the clamp ring back on. Kind of hard to get to on the passenger side. I about gave up a couple of times, thinking I would have to cancel the trip. Taking the wheels off again to remove the DD3 would have been too much time, because we have to leave for the farm in Alberta in the AM.  All seems good now, albeit half a day behind...
