Title: A Simple Request. . .
Post by: RJ on December 25, 2006, 03:57:09 PM
. . . for all registered members and guests.

Please take a moment to look at your profile.  (Click on the "profile" button above.)

Do you have your hometown city & state listed?

If not, why not?

Often, folk have posted on this (and other) board that they have a problem and they need help.  Frequently when these requests come in, the first question asked is "where are you?"  Obviously, if the problem child is on the road, their hometown info isn't much help, but other times, when working at home, they might need help that a fellow busnut just a few miles away might be able to assist, if they knew.

Or maybe a busnut is getting ready to plan a trip, and he knows there are a few fellow busnuts he'd like to stop and visit while out on tour.  A quick check of profiles could assist with trip planning.

I'm not asking for directions to your house, or any other major identifying info.  Just your city and state, that's all. . .

I know we have the "Frapper" map available, but it's a PITA sometimes, compared to a quick click on a busnut's profile.

I also know some folk are worried about more spam and/or junk mail and/or "robots" culling their info from this site, but so far, I haven't seen that happen, based on the info in my profile.

And I know that some folk don't really want others to know where they live. . . (all the people in various "witness protection programs", I'm sure. . . LOL)

From my perspective, help us help you, by taking a minute to modify your profile to include your city & state.

Cheers!!

;)

Thanks Russ,

I know I like to know the where abouts of a fellow bus nut I'm talking to...

Just before we left for Florida last week, I was contacted by a bus nut that lives 5 miles from me.

Allthough he was not a member on MAK yet, he will be soon I hope!

I don't think anyone knows where Sequim, WA is - I think I live in one of the most out of the way places in the U.S.   Mine is on there though - Harry ??? :P ;D

Wow.... I thought that I had all of my information in there, but I decided to check anyway. Well I was wrong, but not by much. I guess I will get one of those happy birthday postings now.

I checked my profile, for location it says "Earth" I guess I could narrow it down to USA. But that is the best I can do, unless I change it al the time ::)

Hello Guy's,

What Russ is talking about is putting your location at the bottom [look down below] of the page.

When in your profile, click Forum Profile Information at the left, then add your location into the signature box.

Like mine..

Russ, a good point and one I've been wondering about.  Several times folks have asked for help, (maintenance manual references, etc.) and I've clicked on their profile to see if they're nearby - and been left wondering.  Seems that those who have had locations posted were too far away, but eventually there'll be someone nearby.

I edited my profile to note that Carrollton is near Dallas - Harry raises a good point about the nearest big city.

I've been posting my location with my signature, but I like Nick's idea about the signature line, I'll try to make that change as well.  As for the witness (or witless) protection program - too late for me.  With my email address on my business website, the spambots found me long ago.

Even MORE helpful would be to include this field in the members list on the board. Not nearly as useful without that.

Ah...now there you'd be wrong!  ;D

I'm just a ferry ride away at the north end of Whidbey Island.  Most of my Dad's side of the family is from Sequim (where my dad went to school...he's 87 BTW) and Port Angeles.

Les...from the soggy Northwet.

Thanks Nick,

And thanks for your web sites too!  I followed along (pictorially) with your bus build...it's gorgeous!  :)

I learn a lot from each and every one of the conversions I've been able to read about.  Good stuff.

Hi Les - Welcome aboard - Guess I got some one to share all this nice rain with - My better 1/2 was born & raised in Sequim - and went to Sequim schools and still lives here(Well - That's apparent I guess) And She may know your Dad.  Do you live in Oak Harbor?? - I used to drive Charters and I've been all over Whidby Island and through there on the way up North. - If you ever get the urge to come over this way - give me a call and drop over to the house - I would be pleased to meet you - Harry

Hi Harry...and thanks for the welcome.

Acutally I live north of Oak Harbor; I'm right at Deception Pass in Cornet Bay.

I should drag my dad over to meet you and your wife and to see your bus...he loves this sort of thing too.  And he'd probably keep going most of a day talking with your wife about the area and who's family they know and such.  You'd never know he was 87 to look at him; I hope I do half as well. :)

Hi Harry,

Thanks for the invite.  I saw in the "photo of your bus thread" that you were looking for someone to help get the head and galley out of your bus.  I'm a pretty good mechanical sort and also good at taking direction and I'd be more that happy to help out (I'm assuming here that you were going to do the work and just need another set of hands).

I'll give you a call and see what your schedule looks like...and thanks again!  :)

Hey Les - My schedule is pretty much set - I'm usually home any day of the week except Tuesday and Friday when I have to go into Sequim to do the shopping and banking and to pay bills - Other than that I'm usually here - Just give a shout when You get to Sequim and The directions are real easy - I'm about a mile off 101 and just a couple of turns - So let me know - Harry  ;D

Thanks Harry.  :)

And to get this thread back on track (since I hijacked it badly!)...

I think the location in the signature block is just great; I love seeing what parts of the country we're all in.
